I always wanted a Jaguar for this reason. I have an uncle who used to work for ExxonMobil in west Houston thar had one and damn that silver car was fly as hell. My uncle might as well have been bill gates to me with that vehicle. There's no reason why Jaguar couldn't continue that status into this era now. Not sure where they messed up before this massive ad failure but probably best to let it go at this point with a reincarnation in 10-20 years or something if the market has room
It was a status symbol ..... You drove a Jag you had made it .. There's a lot of empty space in the auto market, even if they decided to go full EV, particularly in sports cars. There are very few affordable options outside of the Miata and it's Fiat copy .... From there it's a big jump, literally double in price to BMW & Mercedes lower models and it only goes up from there. MG brought a similar EV model to market and didn't make it available in the US .... The original price was supposed to be <$30k. Many of the other makers have done away with sport coupes, luxury or otherwise ..... Cadillac, Hyundai/Genisis, Nissan/Infinity, Chevy doing away with the Camaro, Stellantis nixing the Challenger after this model year .... Mercedes is doing away with wagons, SUV's and most coupe's along with A,C & E classes to focus on top-end variants from AMG, Maybach & the new ultra high end Mythos models. The Mustang & 86/BRZ are what's left of the entry level sports coupe market.
What is the status? Right before Jaguar 's downfall, their most popular products had loud rumbling v8s like their ftype and that was part of their core appeal. Large manufacturers like Ford can afford to fund R&d and invest in one loud fun ICE motor for their Mustangs or Chevy with their r&d of the new ZR1 Vette flat plane crank engine because they sell a massive amount of normie economy cars that allow them to invest in these more fun projects that help with brand recognition. Jaguar specialized in fun loud luxury sporty vehicles, basically the slightly more affordable version of Aston Martin vehicles. They don't have a baseline sales of economy cars to find more fund brand new ICE motor R&D given how much of a money pit it is to funding r&d into a new gas guzzling V8 given the future restrictions on emissions as time moves forward. That put Jaguar in a bad place where they had to pivot to a new image away from loud rumbling v8 luxury sports cars.
Their very first car was the 1935 F type ..... Jag has seen many ups and downs over the years, they were a stand alone company from 1922 to 1965 when British Leyland Motor Corporation acquired them, then BLMC was nationalized because of financial problems in 75, Jag became a stand alone again in 84 then was bought by Ford in 99 then sold to Tata in 08. Both Ford and Chevrolet use those engines in much more than just the sport models - with some minor modifications. The bottom end of the Ford is in trucks with a V8, they do change the rods, cam and heads. Those things will run 300k miles with ease. Chevy does the same thing offering that engine in the Camaro and some truck models. Both offer these engines as crate motors you can drop in your project cars and many top builders / restoration experts use them in their builds. Funny you mention Aston Martin - both were owned by Ford (at the same time) with a majority stake in AM since the mid 80's and outright ownership in 91 .... sold in 2007. Looking back at the situation, post Ford - Tata had no clue what they were getting into. They had been producing, mostly crappy sub compacts that may as well have been powered by rubber bands for the south Korean market and that's a far cry from an engineering standpoint to a luxury car with a V8 or V12. They have gone steadily downhill since that acquisition.
This video was out before the dumb commercial good points , what does Jaguar have that Audi or BMW doesn’t ?
The classic Jaguar cars look great What they needed to do is probably partner up with another car company to produce more reliable cars
The hint this isn't a great business decision like some people are trying to spin it is before this they announced they would stop selling cars until their electric cars were ready The people behind this are fools and soon to be unemployed.
@Salvy @basso @CrixusTheUndefeatedGaul definitely not British looking It’s got a Miami rapper vibe Not sure if it’s a mass seller or any woke person can afford it
Dumbasses, their F-Type R is absolutely beautiful and a beast.. I actually wanted one back when I had my RC-F but would never compromise reliability. WTF are they doing now? Everything woke turns to $hit....
So it’s going to be niche for people who want fruity colors for their ride . Also, nobody is buying EVs from luxury brands. The only EVs that sell well worldwide is Tesla and the Chinese brands
People who want fruity colors get wraps on better cars and if an EV ain't a Tesla all I can think of is that car sucks ass.....
I think they need to design a car that stands out. You look at their sedan, it looks like a Toyota or a Honda ... At their price point, you have to do something that stands apart from other makers be that more power, better handling or simply a more visually appealing ride. They do none of the above. None of the things that made Jag what it once was - a status symbol.
