20ish games into the season and we're seeing how things are coming together. There is a current consensus on each player and I won't go beyond what they currently project as. Like Jabari Smith isn't currently on track to be 6-11 Klay and Sengun isn't on track to be Turkish Jokic. So I will list each player and an estimated current consensus comparable player and want to know if you are higher, lower, or at consensus.

    1) Alperen Sengun - Grit and grind era Marc Gasol with more punch offensively and a little less size. Multi time All Star.

    2) Jalen Green - More athletic but worse Jamal Crawford. Brings a scoring punch but it's a scratch off ticket. 6th man.

    3) Jabari Smith - a little better Channing Frye. Taller but worse Trevor Ariza. Serviceable starter.

    4) Tari Eason - Dollar General Kawhi Leonard. Jumbo wing Patrick Beverly/Marcus Smart without the little man syndrome. All Defensive Team a few times.

    5) Amen Thompson - more athletic Shawn Marion with playmaking ability. Anfernee Hardaway with offensive and defensive sliders reversed.

    6) Cam Whitmore - Rio Grande Corey Magette. 6th man wrecking ball.

    7) Reed Sheppard - Kirk Hinrich reincarnate. Taller FVV with better shooting.

Higher, lower or at consensus so far? And if so what do you project them as from what you've seen?

    1. About the same, but Pau is the more accurate comparison IMO

    2. About the same.

    3. About the same.

    4. Slightly higher

    5. Higher

    6. unfortunately I pretty much agree, but might be even lower on him.

    7. Higher on him than Kirk Hinrich, but a better version of FVV could be accurate. Maybe I'm just lower on Kirk Hinrich than you are.

Very good OP. Because I'm on vacation typing on a tablet, all I'll do now is repeat the same thing from earlier: It will become obvious this season two of those seven won't have a long term future with the Rockets. IMO, Cam, Jalen and Jabari are the most likely candidates.

What are these consensus estimates based on? Just your read of what wider NBA fans think of these guys? Or are you meaning the GARM's consensus?

In any case, I think the takes you posted are reasonable. The player where I have the highest belief level in him continuing to get better and better over what he is now would be Amen. So if I had to bet on two players making multiple all-star teams it would be him and Alpi (because Sengun is the closest to already being there). Whether that exceeds the consensus, idk.

OP, unfortunately I'm with you on some of these. A little higher on Tari, definitely higher on Amen and Reed.

I get the impression that the Rox young core in general has a great work ethic, but I think Alpi, Tari, Amen and Reed are more likely to focus on the important details that'll make them excellent players. Amen will be All-NBA at some point. Alpi as Jokic would be awesome (and unattainable), but Alpi as Pau is pretty darn good. I keep thinking of Tari as high-floor, but he keeps showing his ceiling is higher than I thought.

    Ime, please unlock Reed.

Just kinda vibes around both from within our fanbase and other neutral observers like Vecenie and the Ringer guys. I tend to not listen to any of the genuine "haters" or "super fans" and kinda fall into some sort of median of where the player is at. Not where I personally project them to be or wish them to be. Like you could tell me that Sengun is worse Sabonis or better Pau and I'd get it. If you're telling me he's for sure going to be a Top 50 player ever I'd feel like that's outlandish. Or if you tell me that Tari is going to be an All-Star as nothing he's done can really warrant that. I'd say the only players on the team that look All-Star caliber is Sengun for sure and Amen if he continues his trajectory.

And like Bobby said in his response, there are other comparisons I may not have thought of or that other people might think. It's an open discussion.
