That hurts. Not sure there is another pitcher of his quality that still has reasons for teams not to believe in the quality such that he's likely underpaid. Granted, I expect the Angels will not be as diligent on keeping him from throwing bad pitches, and he won't perform well.
This one hurts. The only thing I can think of is Crane and/or Brown had 3/$60M as a hard limit. They must have known they were outbid which explains the JV news a couple of days ago. It sucks he signed within the division too. 7 more good deals by the Angels and we will need to worry about them.
He got 20+ mil after a few good months. Thats crazy. I think the astros gave up too much now we know we didn't even make it out of the WC round.
If we offered $60M and they beat us with $63M, his financial advisors suck, because he'll pay way more money to the State of CA in taxes then he would here. Likely, WC location was a big factor in his choice (easier flight to Japan) and larger Japanese community (29% of Japanese Americans live in CA). Hate to lose him, loved his contributions last year.
There is a direct flight from houston. If you got a lot of money SoCal is a much nicer place to live.
Said it a very long time ago, he was never going to be brought back. Too many starters, too much money. Crane is a businessman first and foremost. Even tho he was spectacular for us, was almost zero chance he was returning, even from the tradego. I’m sure many of you thought we would try to keep him, but this should be a surprise to no one.
Wish we could have kept him. That being said, I guess it's not to a contender and the Angels will probably misuse him per the Angels usual trajectory with every player imaginable.
We deserve to lose every game he pitches against us next year (and the following 1-2 yrs). And I honestly hope he does shut us out everytime, so the decision makers drop their heads with shame and atone the fanbase.
I think he can hit him and we will definitely see him a lot within the division. We just have to stay up late to watch.
