Yeah that's not a great strategy but its bigger than the Liz Cheney of it all. This election has been lost for some time in terms of the Democratic Party "brand." and how it resonates from a messaging strategy to the larger America. ' I hate to pick on her because she's great, but just look at Chapel Roan as the peak example of what's wrong here for the Democratic Party. -On one hand you have someone that has popped up in pop culture as a drag queen/trans loving pop and social media superstar who little kids absolutely love.... who is a figure that Republicans will all look at and says "Look at JOE BIDEN and THE DEMOCRATS America shoving all this queer trans sh$t in our face." -Then you actually get inside Chapel Roan's circle, or listen to her on her social media channels and she absolutely HATES the Democratic Party. .... And that's just one example of how the Democratic Party as a governing political party is really losing the cultural aspect of our society, and really you are left with just people who are critical thinkers and not overly idealogical in either direction. I could also go on and on about corporate America and DEI where DEI is something corporations put into play on some real silly things (like the other day there was a big uproar about not having enough people of color in a training video when half of the people in the video were people of color). This is a corporation and its individual HR team conversation that has NOTHING to do with the Democratic Party... yet the people on the other side whining about it... guess who they were blaming???... You guessed it. So the issue is the Democratic Party and the culture here in America where they are a policy making group of people who have no control over the cultural changes happening in America that make people on the right or straight men uncomfortable, yet for some reason they allow themselves to get blamed for it. Joe Biden governed on infrastructure in red states, student debt relief, and child tax credits yet he's blamed for people like Chapel Roan having influence over young children when Chapel Roan hates him openly and probably contributed to young voters staying at home or voting for Jill Stein. So at this point its almost like Fck it... you might as well lean into cultural issues on the left if you are going to get blamed for it anyways!! At least you'll turn out more young people who you have clearly lost.
I just don't think there is this grand lesson to learn other than be aware of where the American people are... not just policy wise but culturally. Relying on critical thinking college educated voters to win elections is a loser strategy. You need ignorant and uneducated voters as well in America because we just are who we are. If you aren't going to be culturally acceptable to the right no matter what so you gotta have a primary process that allows for a wide variety of candidates to come in to see if there is someone that does have a talent for speaking and communicating to a larger audience than just weirdo policy nerds like me. Don't overthink the primary process in 2028, and cast a wide net. In 2026 let candidates come into the process that can let their own personality come out at a local level that has broad appeal in their state. In the meantime Dems in Congress need to be focus on messaging one thing and one thing only.... BETRAYAL. When you go on MSNBC, CNN, or Fox the talking point is the same every time "What you are asking me about (insert X Trump scandal) is a distraction from the fact that Trump BETRAYED his voters. He promised he would make your life better economically and instead is only focused on the pockets of billionaires." That's the message now... in the long run... if we have a Democratic process in 26, and 28 .... don't overthink it, and let people outside the box who have cultural relevance into the process. Someone will surely have the ear of a wider net of Americans than traditional Democratic party voters.
