Problem is if teams view him as negative salary, now you have to add even more assets to a booker deal. If he’s overpaid by say 20 mil a season that could take an extra unprotected first to include him
It honestly feels like this team can be a contender by replacing Jalen with an actual star SG like Devin Booker or Donovan Mitchell. I wonder what it would take to pry Tyler Herro away from the Heat. He's averaging 24 pts, 5 rebs, 5 asts on 48 FG% and 45 3PT%.
I’ve been on the Herro train for a while despite constant pushback on this forum, haha. I think he’d fit great. Especially his shooting. I’m just not sure why the Heat would want to trade him.
Maaan yall have to get over that, teammates bark at each other all the time, they do it all the time in huddles, practice, etc. I would bet Sengun doesn't even remember it and the whole thing was based on a random twitter person claiming he heard it. Alpi is nice because these two support each other, they pass to each other, they work well with each other. The beef is all completely imagined and specifically ONLY on this forum. Like it's not even a thing, if you see the body language between those two it's the opposite of any kind of beef or dislike. Sengun knows he needs a player like Jabari and vice versa. Also, Dyson Daniels shooting sub 30 from three, that's the last thing we'd need, another guy that the defense can ignore from three and he's also less of a factor on the boards and not really a big.
Nope, Jabari was a punk who thought barking at others is a thing he can do to express his chip on his shoulder thang.....thought wrong. Admittedly that has nothing much to do with his shooting....I don't think he sucks, he is just not the guy who is the least important next to Jalen Green if it comes hard to hard. Those 2 are the players that take weeks or months off and then have a hot streak. There are other defenders that are good at switching, every team switches now, that is hardly anything outstanding. If Sengün, Amen and Tari can create better looks, of course anyone who is a shooter can benefit.
I think the simplest, most casual analysis of Jalen Green is the correct one: if he can't ever be a good outside shooter, he'll never be a good player. I can live with his poor finishing. I can live with his meh defense. I can live with his mediocre playmaking. But if he can't make wide open shots that his teammates give him, or that he gives himself, then he will peak as a microwave scorer who needs to be benched when his shot is especially bad.
I don't think I said Jalen can't shoot, he can shoot. I just said Bane is a better shooter. I don't know if Bari is a better shooter, they are both the same levels of inconsistency at this point. My metric of if a guy can shoot is different than others here, ignore the %, I care more about how the other team guards guys. Like if you notice Reed doesn't get many wide open shots, the man is a rookie and teams are not willing to leave him open. I think teams don't want to leave Jalen open either, I was pretty positive about Jalen overall in that post even. He just can't be a superstar player as he is right now, his shot isn't superstar level, he takes tougher shots but that's the difference between him and say Doncic or Mitchell etc, those guys hit tough shots. They take and make tough shots on the regular, Jalen doesn't. I just think Jalen is more replaceable than Jabari, but Jalen is the better player, right now. It's just that like I mentioned there are tons of wings out there you can get that can shoot the three and defend while it's harder to find 6'10 guys that can shoot the three and defend the perimeter. As for his driving, I don't know why he doesn't do it or what, if he's sacrificing that for the team that's cool with me, since we are winning right now its hard to argue because after all the goal is to win, not help Jalen's career, but to win. As for Udoka well I'm not surprised, I think he plays guys based on their defense and he doesn't care about how badly their shots are honestly lol. I mean yeah he wants good shots to be sure but his answer to everything is always better defense so I think he doesn't care if Jalen is chucking as long as the other team can't score he's cool with it.
I just automatically assign potential based on age because lots of guys do turn it around and get better. I do think with Jalen too it's a mental thing. It's not like "Oh, he's not fast enough..." it's a mental thing. I think he's movable but I don't think its even close to being a point where his bad play is hurting the team. He has good nights, he has bad nights, it's about the same for everyone on the team right now. That's the one flaw of this team is no one is that stable superstar you can rely on every night, the team has done a good job of just going with what works that night... ALTHOUGH I will say the one constant of this team is that Amen and Tari come in and absolutely cause chaos. Jalen is a fringe all-star because if the Rockets finish top 4 in the west they might get two all-stars. The first is Sengun the 2nd? It's either going to be FVV or Jalen. A fringe all-star makes the all-star team by default of being on a good team and being rewarded for it and my guess is if the Rockets get two allstars this year (contingent on them remaining in the top half of the WC) Jalen is going because he averages more points, but again, that's only if they get two. It's a lot harder to get two if you don't have one win on votes and can't see Sengun or Jalen having the fanbase or relevance to win on votes.
Jalen can definitely shoot.... and he does all the time, it just rarely goes in and that's the problem.
Switching at 6'10 is not common at all though and its valuable since you also have size to impact rebounds and defend other bigs. Jabari has been crucial to the teams success this year, you can just look at the lineups. Jabari is part of like most of our best lineups. He does what they ask him to do, he never does more, he never complains, he got mad at Sengun for not being in the right spot defensively supposedly...and you know what? So have other Rocket players. They are always throwing up arms and giving each other the look when someone gets a layup or a shooter is left wide open. That's normal. That's how a team gets to this level defensively, they play for each other, they criticize each other, and they tell each other when they mess up. That's how a team becomes a defensive unit. It really is nothing personal or nothing to make a big deal of, only fans make a big deal with it. For players its just normal. You messed up, someone calls you out for it, you do better next time. Normal for any team in any sport. It's never personal. It's not some punk move or anything like that. I actually don't want players that will crumple and fold because another player criticizes them. That's weak and soft. People talk about culture, that's culture, that's the Heat culture people go on about or the culture Pop has with his teams same with the Warriors. You mess up, someone gets on you about it, it can't always be the coach, sometimes it HAS to be another teammate.
You are embellishing it, I don't fault you, Udoka is the glue but he is not here forever. You project historic Defense onto the Rockets and they are not there yet. The age gap of Brooks/FVV and the rest isn't great, you have to constantly find veterans that fit the time line. That is taxing in itself. For now Jabari has been as inconsistent as Jalen Green, no excuses, we shall give theme more time.
This is from Cleaningtheglass, so excluding garbage time and heaves, etc. (as I learned today). The good news is that we have a positive +/- with Jalen Green on the floor. The bad news...
....but if you don't extend him, you have to give up an extra young player (maybe 2) and Brooks just to make the money work. Green is unlikely overpaid by $20M/year. If the Rockets don't make a trade, the contract likely doesn't hurt the Rockets.
Didn't Herro play the 6th Man role for many years, the role Jalen was supposed to play but the Rox never let him.
After looking at a few other teams' on/off stats, I would definitely take those with a big grain of salt. It makes it look like Zach Lavine is amazing in terms of positive impact, when that is not the case, for instance. Makes it look like D'Angelo Russell is having an amazing season and Lebron is a scrub. Etc.
Ya i don't think it's a disaster, but SO FAR in the 3.2 seasons we have seen, green has never played at a starter level or honestly even close. If he doesn't turn it around, is he really worth above the minimun? Him being overpaid by 20 mil a year is a real possibility. I do agree about the salary matching part though, that's a big thing.
