Yeah I mean it wasn’t just one factor. If it did have to be boiled down to one factor though it’s just bad information or a lack of critical thinking. The lack of critical thinking explanation: -I remember my life was better in 2017. Im not happy right now in 2024 about my life. Therefore I’m voting that if I change back the president to who it was in 2017 my life will go back to where I was too. … The cultural backlash aspect did play a role but it was with a small portion of unreliable voters in young to middle aged men who look at Trump as a middle finger to the culture change they’ve seen. I think Trump turned out a fair amount of these unreliable voters to matter but the polling was pretty close this cycle so we are talking about a couple million voters at most or 1 to 3% of the voting base where this culture change aspect (that Kamala Harris had nothing to do with) was what drove them off the bench. The other 95% of Trump supporters are voters who have been there the whole time since 2020 when he turned them out because it turns out there were a lot more people out there who didn’t normally vote that bought into this notion that Trump has a magic wand on the economy (which was Obama economy he inherited and just cut taxes for rich people afterwards). Not nothing in a close race and it mattered but the core of the electorate stayed where it was from 2020 with a good amount of Democratic voters staying home because of a bunch of reasons and then the Trump voting block stayed with Trump for the first I mentioned and he gained just enough of bench depth to push him over the finish like.
so when working-class voters with high school educations voted Democratic, they were smart. Now that they are voting for Republicans, they are dumb. Got it.
I think a more fair statement is regardless of education level, you have to be stupid or masochist to vote for Trump, MIT physicist to frat bro venture capitalist, it doesn't matter

I would disagree that it was the Obama economy that made Trump's economy successful. Good thing is we're about to find out if I'm right or you're right. I'm loving that he's appointing people like Musk/Ramaswami to cut govt waste and Homan to help deport/cleanup the border mess. I'm hoping Trump's election leads to less interference by the federal govt in its citizens everyday lives.

The economy was doing great 2016. It didn’t suddenly turn around when Trump become president in 2017. What kept the economy going was Trump was blocked or backed off many of his main pledges regarding tariffs, although his tariffs did hurt US farmers badly. His signature trade deal was revamping NAFTA which was the opposite of what he campaigned on and what he says he wants to do this presidency. How well the economy does the next few years is going to depend on how much Trump DOESN’T get his agenda. Adding 20% to all imports won’t lower prices nor will deporting a significant chunk of our workforce. Even Elon Musk admitted that Trump policies will hurt the economy. He said “temporarily” but how temporary that will be he didn’t specify.
