I would say we have no idea about how good a NBA player Reed is. When he plays he has a very minor role. He either sits in the corner or dribble the ball up the court and passes the ball to one of our playmakers. I do believe this is by design and Ime doesn't want him (or any rookie at this part of the season) to play a major part in the offense. I highly doubt Knecht would score 30 points for us in November if we would have drafted him. Reed has shown glimpses, both on defense and in transition. His shooting percentage is slowly climbing and is already respectable. But the truth is, we simply don't know. Other rookies have already shown great things when given the opportunity, so yeah, I totally do understand wanting them over Reed at this point. But I am far from ready to form any oppinion over Reed with the way he is being played right now.
Knecht was good player in college but these days teams with top draft picks go for youth and upside. An older rookie like Knetch wasn’t going in the top 3. What I was upset about on draft night was all the teams that allowed him to fall into the Lakers lap which was the perfect situation for an older contending team that desperately needed shooting. It was a JJ Reddick/Lakers dream.
And some question me whether Dalton would've been able to find playing time with the Rockets.... (fast forward the first 23 seconds to pass commercial) Ohhh yeah !!!! Jalen and Sengun definitely would've had spacing. BPA @ #3 ( usually I argue against going BPA.....not this past draft)
I would not at all be surprised if 0 all stars end up coming from this draft. As far as role player potential goes, Reed is fine. Knecht and Edey are both older than Sengun. Reed has way more room to grow. He is actually really really small though and his "elite defense" in college has been reduced to nothing more than swiping at the ball to get cheeky steals and blocks.
Older age only means they are less likely to have a 15+ year career but it does not mean they have no shot at being an All Star. All depends on talent and execution. With Knecht the question is .....can he be consistent enough.
i remember asking why more people didn't want Dalton at #3. A certain poster here said he wouldn't add anything to the Rockets so I just said "ok" and left it alone. Its pointless to go back and forth with toxic mfs here but I knew the kid was special. Reed is too, but it will take him more time. Rockets have no one currently who can hit shots consistently.
I know more than I wanted the Rockets to draft Dalton. There was a good group of us. Certain people are of the belief that they have to go with an 18 or 19 year old. That mindset it changing. Dalton and Edey would have been good for Houston in the sense, we could bypass those early bumpy road just figuring out things for years like Jalen Green, Cam Whitmore, Jabari Smith taking 2 to 3 years of learning. Like going from bumpy access road to going strait to the freeway and skipping all those major potholes. One member told me it will be a year for Reed to learn as the Rockets want to win next year. I told him he was a loser with that mentality. Now the team is in the third seed. AND WE ARE NOT READY TO WIN......NOW. ROCKETS ARE LOOKING TO BRINGING IN A STAR TO WIN NOW........or they would be tanking for Flagg. Any team in the third seed in the East or West would be putting all chips to the center of the table. But, no, we are suppose to be f'ing around (at the top) and finding out.
Send Reed to the g league and let him and Cam develop a relationship playing together With Amen / Tari possibly replacing FVV / Dillon next season. Would be nice for Reed / Whitmore to have good chemistry and be the spark off the bench next season Play Holiday this season
Sure, as an academic exercise, that's fine. I'm just saying, in the real world, it's unlikely the Rockets would pick a guy who went #17 with the 3rd pick in the draft. And there was no noise prior to the draft that they were interested in him anyway, it was pretty much all about Clingan. And again, I suspect Knecht would be getting just as little playing time as Reed has been, if not even less. We just have too many young guys who need minutes and Ime seems unwilling to cut Fred's or Dillon's playing time.
in hindsight, would Spurs have traded their 2 1st round picks for the Rockets 3rd pick plus cash etc? could stone have thought most ready player available (regardless of age/potential) and drafted one of clingan/edey and knecht/mccain?
Not one person in the history of man has ever said that Reeds defense in college was elite. Because it wasn't.
