CJ's career completion % is essentially the same as Case Keenum. Note that comp% isnt the best decider of overall QB greatness, cuz that would mean Teddy Bridgewater is a top 10 all time QB. Then quality of defenses faced, and game-to-game situations factors in. CJ makes confident throws on deeper passes. Deep passes lowers comp%, but its timely big plays thats part of CJ's game last year But its still going against notion of CJ being "elite super accurate". Yes, CJ had a string of high% games in final stretch year. Including the awesome Browns playoff game. Though even QB's like Bo Nix & Will Levis can have a couple 80% completion 3 TD games sprinkled in the season. So what is CJ's "true" accuracy? The key is to give him time in pocket to keep his mechanics, reads, timing & anticipation consistent. Asking him to be the next biggest thing being pinpoint on every pass despite protection & playcalling issues is a bit much
Worst game I’ve seen CJ play. Personally I’m a bit concerned. Something seems off. Footwork etc looks fine. He just isn’t throwing the ball with the same confidence right now. I hope we can wake up a bit.
I'm gonna assume it. CJ is playing hurt this year and not saying anything. After the season, it'll all come out.
CJ popping up on the injury report for the first time this year is next to meaningless. If it were going to contribute to losses he would not be in there. This team has no problem sending stars to IR and it would be no different with CJ if it meant he would be 100% for the playoffs. Some of you may not believe it, but CJ is seeing shadows out there. He's hearing footsteps and his feel for the game is jittery and insecure. I anticipate he will rekindle the rhythm and chemistry with Nico pretty quickly and that should have a domino effect throughout the passing game. He's just not moving when he needs to move to evade or pick up positive yards. He's literally staring at or through defenders bearing down on him. He is not stepping up into the pocket and often runs right into the rush. Its not a signal of anything other than CJ just being roughed up by the NFL a little bit as a young player. I have no doubt he will bounce back better once they can fully understand how to attack certain fronts and he can trust his OL to do their jobs.
I think the super late bi week is probably contributing to it as well, he’s got rocked weekly for a while now. Will be good to get his body some rest
The amount of times he has turned it over near or in the red zone is most worrisome. The INT last night was just an awful throw, what happened to his incredible accuracy? Not sure I buy the hand injury either.
CJ was ranked what... top 19 or 20 in the top 100 NFL players before the season started? Their is obviously still a lot of season left but I wonder how much he falls off on next years list. It's voted on by other players and coaches if I recall correctly.
They were talking about this on the radio today. I was not aware of this, but it makes sense. Even a minor injury to his throwing hand could be causing some of the off target throws. I’m not worried about CJ long term.
Goal was to get the first down on a 4th and 3 and Dare was wiiide open here. Nico was too but it's a riskier pass. Especially since he has to throw it over the linemen who is trying to tip the ball. CJ needs to do better.
I see it differently. Dare was covered by Diggs who releases off of him cause CJs eyes are up field and starts his throwing motion to Nico.
He can layer it and throw it with more zip and it's still ending up in Hooker's paws. That's the 'anticipation' throw that the QB school always raves about from Stroud, only it's way off, sailing to the right like Framber throwing to first base. Only Stroud knows why his footwork mechanics, that he takes pride in, is sloppy.
Same exact mistake happened later in the game when we had Joe lined up in the slot and CJ threw it behind him on a slant. Not intercepted, but it should have been a TD.
He absolutely is experiencing a sophomore slump, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It simply means that opposing teams have adjusted to his tendencies, and he’s now working to refine his game on a week-by-week basis. This challenge will ultimately make him a better player. We’re already seeing signs of his growth, he’s getting Metchie more involved in the offense, starting to use his legs to pick up key yards when nothing is open downfield, and, most importantly, taking accountability for his mistakes and working to correct them. Despite this rough patch, he’s still managing to rank among the top five in passing yards, which is a testament to his talent and potential. The crazy part? His sophomore season ends game 17. Playoffs is a whole new season. And let’s not forget how playoff C.J. looked last season...
