The Rockets win without Reed showing skills.....it does not matter that much. I would be worried in a year or so. And I would not call the Grizzlies a contending team yet.
I don't doubt that it would be difficult for a casual to tell if Sheppard can shoot or not.....you're just proving my point my guy.
Positive is that Reed Sheppard's non-shooting plusses coming into the year are showing themselves on the NBA level, which means if and when his shot comes around, he looks like as a floor he can be a rotation guard. Negative is that his deficiencies as a prospect are also showing, and of course he's not shooting well. At least he seems to be shooting more, which is a plus. He's very much in a TBD bucket. I think he was way too hyped on this board coming into the year which is making his performance seem worse than expected. And quite frankly I did expect better shooting than what's he's shown. But then the Rockets seem to be a place where prospects come to have their shot destroyed. Jalen 3pt shooting at Ignit 36.5%, currently shooting 33%. Jabari 42% at Auburn, currently shooting 30%. Sheppard shot 52% at Kentucky. Now shooting 28%. Seriously I do wonder if the Rockets need some better coaches. Nobody during Stone's tenure has somehow become a better shooter over the course of their time here. Most just either stay the same or get worse.
A lot of the issue is how he's being used. When you only get 2 or 3 minutes at a time and have to come cold off the bench AND you know any mistake whatsoever will get you benched....it's not a recipe for success. The form is there, his shot will be fine, especially if they get better coaching and run things through less selfish players.
It is pretty frustrating that we now have two draft picks where the selling point was "the ceiling is high if he can develop other skills, but even if he doesn't, at the very least, we know he is an elite 3 point shooter." And of those two guys, neither of them seem to know how to shoot 3s.
Yes of course. Blame the coach of a team that is currently in 3rd place in the West. Because he can't coach, Reed can't shoot. Maybe Ime should run out on the floor with him while he's playing and coach him.
The Grizzlies are definitely a contending team. The Rockets, because of their new defensive identity, are contenders, imo.
Cannot imagine because the oldest player Rafael drafted was Tari and he was 20 at draft time. Knecht is like 23.....already. He would not have drafted anyone over 21 ......
If Devin Carter weren't out he would be right up there on that list with the better rookies in this draft early in the season.
It's either you're good or not. If he's good enough to warrant more playing time, I'm sure he would get it. Could you imagine MJ, Bird or Hakeem getting 2 - 3 mins a game? I really wanted them to trade the pick, I just thought if you couldn't get either Risacher or Sarr, prototypes we didn't have on the roster, then trade back or out. Personally, I just think he's going to be picked on every time he checks into the game.
There are so many adjustments for rookies to make. I think a big one is not having regular minutes- going from starting to scraps must be rough.
We really don't have many minutes to spare, it's win now mode. It's a nod to Reed that they sent Cam down to Gleague instead of him
Reed Sheppard has taken a total of 25 … three point attempts in his NBA career. To say that is a small sample size is an understatement. In fact - two games ago he was up to 40% on 3’s but has had to bad shooting nights since then. Really hard to know anything about him after 13 games and 25 three point shots. He is shooting 50% on two-point shots and hasn’t even had a free throw yet. Everything is still at the “feeling out” stage with Reid. Probably best to just check back on him later.
He isn’t a one trick pony. He is a smart and good passer. He causes lots of turnovers because he is elite at getting steals. He is shooting 50% inside of 23 feet. Until two games ago he was at nearly 40% on 3’s. …. it’s too early to know what he isn’t or isn’t.
Reed should really go to the G league if he's not going to get minutes. He needs regular playing time. We're 9-4 with him averaging under 12 minutes a game. A short stint in the G league could really help.
