If Jabari can hit open shots as consistently as he did last night the he'll get more touches. They drafted him because of his shooting ability. He's been getting around $10m/year and hasn't held up his end of the bargain.

I can't remember the last stand out game he had before last night. I'm happy he played well, but this should be expected in year 3. We're finally getting a glimpse of what he's capable of. Hopefully it doesn't keep taking articles coming out questioning if he should lose his starting position to light a spark up his ass.

Because that was never his role before. He's always been the star and needs the ball to be productive. It's like asking Jalen Green to be a role player, he'd be even worse than Jabari is,

so he's adjusting to this new role of just standing around and touching the ball once in a blue moon.

Still a good and fair deal - Jalen is a good but not great player.

I see why he took this contract and decided not to bet on himself

with his current level of play, he’d be getting a 2/40 deal next offseason at best

    averaging 20, 5, and 3 on 38/33/86 splits and 51% TS

he is a 33% 3 point shooter this season taking 9 threes a game…he’s a career 34% 3 point shooter, so it’s not like he’s in some slump or shooting below his standard and we know he’ll turn it around

51% TS is a career low right now

I disagree. He would be getting a pretty significant offer. I’m still happy with the contract. I am frustrated that he seems unable to remain disciplined in his shooting mechanics though.

How are those numbers getting a pretty significant offer? Especially when the previous 3 years aren’t good either?

Plenty of bad teams would be willing to gamble on him based on his age, where he was drafted and his perceived ceiling.

He is currently an integral piece on a 9-4 team on the rise. He is playing well outside of hitting the threes. One hot streak brings that % up. It is probably where we are at with him. Streaky. Plays well in the 4th. Young player that we have for 3.5 more years. I like where it is heading.

He is currently shooting career low percentages for 2's and also 3 pointers. I'm not sure how you can say he is playing well.

You mention that he is a hot streak away from bringing up his percentages but we've seen from 3 seasons worth of games that he'll follow a few good games with a slump of terrible shooting games.

I wouldn’t expect much in return.

That is why Brooks and Dort are the new role players, can go off for 30 offensively but are used as specialist defenders, limiting their shots to reasonable amount.

He is shooting 33% which is his career average.

His 2 pters are low because he keeps taking mid range shots. If you look at his FG% by distance he is actually shooting a career high 70% 0-3 distance. That means he is unstoppable inside. He has been loosey goosey as the Rockets keep playing against scrubs, but Udoka benched him recently so he should shape up offensively sooner or later.

He is definitely playing well and contributing in spurts. He isnt that efficient but he makes up for it with clutch plays and great defense. Nobody else on the team is comfortable bombing from 3 so even if his shooting is slightly below league average he still plays an essential role for our team.

practically speaking, Jalen can’t be traded until July of next year, so it’s not really worth talking about (see Bima’s thread).

Nope, his average is 33.7%, he is shooting 33.0% ...0.7% below. We are accurate.

The extension was dumb but I guess they figured he would pout if they extended Alpi without extending him. Hopefully he will earn the money one day but I have strong doubts. I would love to be proven wrong.

Where does the "he is playing great defense" come from?

I would agree it's not as horrible as it was when he and KPJ were literally the worst defenders in the league, but "great"?

Harder to gauge though but I agree, the group of wing defenders that the Rockets have plus a very good defender in Sengün actually make Jalen look better than he individually is.

I think Jalen has looked good against certain guys.

The thing is that Udoka himself could be gone or Green traded and what is next for Jalen after that with a new coach?

Running some scenarios on the capulator, we could give max extensions to Bari, Tari, and Amen (obviously unrealistic) and still be under the apron each year even if Green opts in. Like I said, his contract won’t hinder us going forwards regardless of what happens.
