There is a first time for everything!

Look I hope he doesnt leave after fighting the battles I have for him LOL, but I wouldnt be mad at him for taking off either. We'll see where his head is at if he does scale the mountain.

If it becomes a territorial thing then Jalen ends up in GS. A hometown boy has the option of playing for the hometown team. Fresno does not have a professional sports team that I know of.

Yes, you’re right. After one year, he can lock in 5yrs at 25% Max.

To get to 30%, guys like Vecenie are suggesting after one year, he would lock in only 2yrs security at 25% Max.

keep in mind, my entry in this discussion is around discussing risks to thr Rockets of Jalen hitting it *this year* such that anyone would pay Max.

And yes, you could say to actually cash-in on a deserved 30%, he has to go injury-free for two years after this. So, he’d be risking 3 extra yrs of Max security, to gain flexibility of destination and making significantly more money.

I’m with you: I don’t think he risks that. But, charting out the scenarios is still an interesting discussion.

fwiw: There is also a scenario of going for Designated Veteran Supermax of 35%, as soon as possible. imo, that would require him thinking he’ll be perennial All-NBA (like, making it this year with strong signs he’ll make it again), but it only risks losing 2yrs of Max pay if injured.

lol I think Brunson's "discount" is overblow. At least, with regard to how much he left on the table. I bet he'll opt out in the 2027 offseason and sign a massive extension, whereas if he waited and signed a contract that took him to 2030, he's likely not getting another big extension. He'll potentially make 72 mil in 2028 v. 53 with more years. He may end up making much more money overall by taking his "discount." And, like Jalen, the Knicks are really the only team in position to do this given the CBA.

In fact, Brunson is a good example of why Green won’t leave. Brunson took less on fewer years because he knew that, if he continued to perform, he could opt-in and sign an extension with the Knicks.

Maybe let him play well a few times before spiking the football. :D

Dude is not being defended. Thank goodness he knocked down some open shots like a competent role player.

Not being defended? Perhaps watch the game before opening your mouth. I think there may have been one wide open shot. The rest were defended 3s, drives with a pull up, or cleanups in the paint.

You think having 1 good game out of 13 means he’s not a role player anymore? Hilarious. Currently his ceiling is exactly a role player because he isn’t one yet, right now he’s a bench warmer masquerading as a starter because of his draft position. Hopefully he can have a few more games like last night to bring his averages back up to role player level.

lol whatever you say. Keep going off about a 21 yr old’s ceiling. Role players don’t have 28/11 games while being apart of the two best four man defensive units in the league.

I dunno how anyone can judge Jabari. He literally gets 0 opportunity to do anything. We run no plays for him and he just seems like he's not in rhythm and when he gets the ball he feels like he has to shoot it because he will never get the ball again. If he had the usage of Jalen I think he'd be much better.

If Jabari had the usage of Jalen we wouldn’t have won a single game

Crazy because I don't see anyway he can be worse than 38.4% from the field. Like literally any player in the nba with that usage could probably be better.

Can't he be judged as a roleplayer? He gets the same touches as Dillon Brooks(only 1 less per game) and we have a pretty good idea of what Brooks is. He also gets the same touches as Tari (1 more per game) and Tari is impressing everyone. Why can't Jabari show us what Dillon and Tari have shown us?

The Jalen contract is pretty bad until he proves he can shoot or get to the line…consistently. It’s just that simple. I would not have extended him until I saw a full year or consistency or significant progress in those two areas. Considering all of the young talent on the team that are more deserving of impending extensions, and considering that we didn’t actually have to extend Jalen, it’s very disappointing. I can only hope that Jalen becomes a much better player or that Stone actually delivers on his supposed ability to make a deal. I simply can’t suffer through another year of Harvey Dent knowing how much money we’ve committed to him. I don’t like the way he plays basketball. I think he’s soft, I don’t think he has good handles, I don’t think he can shoot efficiently, I don’t like his iso hero ball. Most of all I hate the flexing after a dunk when he hasn’t played well. Alpi had played 3 yrs of progressively good basketball and was on the doorstep of all star status last yr. Jalen hadn’t shown anywhere close to that progress. They weren’t in the same league as extension candidates. One guy earned his extension and the other gets a 2nd contract he hasnt earned.

Bit of a silly list. Frankly, I can’t really see how Green’s contract could really become terrible. First, his defensive improvements have radically heightened his floor. I can’t imagine him not being a solid rotation piece at worst.

Second, his contract just won’t have much impact on us regardless of what happens. Once we extended Sengun, we locked ourselves into being an above the cap team for the foreseeable future. Therefore, the primary concerns are extensions for our existing young core, and Jalen’s contract just won’t impact them much. FVV’s contract will come off. Brooks’ contract comes off when Amen’s potential extension kicks in. Our cap is pretty clean going forward.
