I don’t doubt he works hard on the court, just not convinced he works hard enough on some areas of his game. Or if he does, then he simply doesn’t have the capability to add a midrange aspect to his game like the Jokics and Embids. It will limit him.
stat means nothing. JJJ has an outside shot and was the MOST blocked a couple of seasons ago. Charge it to the game. Not going to disagree that a mid face up game would be welcomed. Every season he has added something new. If the rest of guys hopefully start making their shots, they'll stop jumping the PnR. Double teams in the post..Udoka loves that
Interestingly enough, Sengun is shooting 59% from a distance of 10-16ft. That's midrange right? Highest of his career in the small 11 game sample size. Problem is he doesn't take that many. He should.
Sengun off the court: -39.4 If you haven't already, go ahead and buy your Sengun jerseys. He's our best and most impactful player using eyeballs and any relevant data.
Yet he is the center in the two best defensive lineups in the entire league. You are going to have to get used to the fact that Alpi is kind of like Thanos, in that he is inevitable. You should be much more concerned about your boy who has regressed to the mean quickly after his hot start.
Sengun was benched for his offensive ineptitude, turnovers, and inefficiency in those games. You are a basketball shortbus rider who happens to be a fan of a great Rocket in Jalen Green. That's your 1 redeeming quality and yet you turn that in to a dumpster fire with your imbeccelic, lowiq basketball vomit. Dumbazz.
Regarding the playtime distribution and bench time, I've seen this possible reason brought up once or twice but I honestly don't think it's getting enough run. When you have a player as good as Sengun in a game where he's performing well and/or even dominating, what possible reason could there be to sit him or refuse to play him late in games? I've listed a few common theories and my thoughts. 1. Udoka - He's so awful that he just cannot accept Sengun's impact, or he has some secret agenda against him as a player. OR maybe he doesn't want to run his team through his best option to win. - Honestly I'd have a hard time buying this from even a college coach, let alone a pro who wants to keep his job. 2. Lineup Combinations - This could fall under #1 but I've read a lot about what Udoka wants to do with personnel late in games or in certain matchups. - If Sengun was a lesser player or flat out didn't work well in certain lineup combinations I'd give this more weight, but we've seen him perform well in so many different situations it doesn't make much sense. 3. Defensive Issues - He's too much of a defensive liability late in games to be trusted. - I'll admit I've never considered Sengun a defensive stopper, and it times in the past he's even felt like a liability. However he seems to be much improved defensively this year, and combined with the rebound improvements I just don't think this is a good reason to sit him. 4. Conditioning/Stamia - He's getting tired and when forced to play past his stamina limit he starts to get sloppy and have lapses. - This would be my best guess. It seems more likely to me that he's getting sat down because he's not in 35+ min game shape. Tired players are prone to more mistakes and defensive lapses. It looks like he's never averaged more than 32 mins per game. Are theories 1-3 the reason for this or is it more likely that he tires quickly? Maybe he's expending so much energy it's not sustainable, And if it's stamina are we looking back at the coaching staff? Anyone who's played competitive sports at a high school or beyond level will tell you that not every athlete can give 100% at all times for an entire game. Some players have to pick their spots. Some are genetic freaks that never get tired. Just food for thought, I have seen way more discussions about how awful Udoka is so I thought I'd throw this out there.
This might be the smartest take I've seen in this whole thread about Sengun's 5-game run of struggles this year.
Yes, I agree with this. His defense is decent but not enough to make up for some of the offensive games he's had, especially when behind. And when athletic post defenders have stymied him even more so; you need outside shooters. Sengun has been hesitant to just put it up, whether from 3 or that 10-15 ft range.
Being that he is the only player that gets benched for missing shots, I do not blame him for being hesitant sometimes. Jalen, FVV, and sometime Bari seem to have the green light to shoot no matter how bad they are shooting.
