Not anymore you can’t now that he’s improved on defense.

I still think his defense is very matchup based. There are people he just can't guard because of his physical limitations. Just cuz he tries harder doesn't mean he's good at it. His PER this year is worse than it was last year....his advanced numbers don't reflect that his defense is any better.

Not really sure what you’re trying to say. 110 is a good defensive rating and much lower than what he’s posted in the past. We have a top 5 defense, and the differences in defensive ratings are nominal aside from Brooks. I’m sorry, I’m really surprised Green has any defense detractors at the moment. Makes me wonder if y’all actually watch the games.

By those statistics, he's also the 2nd best offensive player on the team. Or do you not like the statistics that make him look good?

Yes, among our seven rotational players, he is marginally the worst in that particular ranking. On the other hand, he’s top 5 in rebounds, blocks, steals, PIE, netrtg, defensive w/s, etc.

It should be clear to anyone with eyes that our top 7 players are all very good defensive players this year.

thats fine I'm not suprised with that he's know for putting up points regardless of efficiency

I was responding about impact to the team's overall defense though

and for NETRTG, he's 5th behind Alpi, Tari, Dillon, and Amen
but better than Jabari and FVV

I am halfway tempted to send off Fred just to experiment more with JG. Hell, we spent the money on him. We might as well lean in and see If this can be fixed.

If we aren't going to run a Princeton (we should...) we should be tripling and quadrupling the actions that involve JG and Alperen. DHos all damn game between those two. Invert a pick and roll. Just MORE. Stop the Fred Dribbling 16 seconds off the clock, PLEASE. I appreciate the organization Fred provides, but honestly, I think I'd rather have the Amen/JG/Tari/Alperen chaos, even if we go through some youthful struggles.

JG and Alperen are FANTASTIC DHo players. Why do we insist on having our guards dribble into shots? Total goofball Gundy offense from 2003... remove the training wheels!

I like Jalen Green's body language and attitude this year, and that is the most important thing aside from making shots. He might be a little bit of a late bloomer.

I hope Fred sits again tomorrow. Give me 10-12 FTA from JG, please. More often he needs to work himself into the game with guile and contact at the rim.

Why don't you come over and teach those kids shooting, Sam?

A lot of guys have impressed me so far this year. Sengun continues to add to his game, and Amen and Tari are tearing it up with defense and rebounds and creating scores through sheer hustle.

But nothing makes me feel better about our future than the maturation of Jalen Green. Beyond the numbers, his whole attitude looks like it has changed. He's so much more locked in on man defense and active in help defense. He's doing more to run the offense and create plays for teammates. It's a different level of confidence from just the confidence of a shooter. He looks like a guy who used to think of himself as a scorer but now thinks of himself more as a leader.

I don't know if he'll ever be vocal or a steadying influence like FVV or Lebron. I expect not. But Jalen's ability to score or create opportunities for others on offense, combined with his new reliability in a switching defense, significantly raises our potential to compete for a championship.

I mean we’ve been saying it forever. The packed paint has reduced his rim attacks and that has made his efficiency shoot to 70%. That’s our queue to send him inside more but Udoka is weirdly constantly saying he doesn’t want Green to challenge the bigs. Couldn’t disagree more. We need ferocious attacks to generate some fear even if it costs 1-2 FG’s. We need Green at 6+ FTA on the season.

Also I’ve been saying no more mid range for the love of his and spare me the “gets him in rhythm”. Who cares if he’s in rhythm when we had to get out of rhythm to get there? He’s only good at the FT one. The rest of the middies got to go till a summer comes when his game is so tight that’s the last thing he needs to add to his game.

The bigger issue though is the way the paint is packed makes it such that the “right” shot is a 3 almost every single play. Because that’s what the defense wants you to take. They know we have slashers and not shooters. They’re daring us to shoot, and we’re just playing along to the opponents playbook.

Green needs more pace and/or space. Transition and penetration points are what stabilizes a SG. You can never have consistency if you designed an offense where most of the time the right shot is a semi-open 3pter. Jumpers are inconsistent. Jump shooters are inconsistent. If you want efficiency and consistency, help him help you.

I get how some STILL want to blame everyone else, but Jalen being a SG that can't shoot is by far his biggest problem. If he was a competent shooter it would open up his entire game.... and that's not speculation, we've seen it.

Also, you don't base your entire team around an under performing SG that can't shoot.... that SG will just have to get better or maybe a starting role just isn't right for them
