Cool, Cool, Cool I'll be here come playoff time when this team is ready to put in work and I'll smile thinking back on how so many of you threw up the white flag halfway through the year without any context application while holding hands with the refs because the OC needed to be put on notice. Im sure Slowik was expecting his OL was going to be one of the worst units in the NFL and that he would be without the best WR in the whole damn league for 50% of the games. "Scheming open" in the spread NFL is not as easy when you have JAGS on the roster supposed to pick up the slack of all pro type guys. Take a step back and look at this thing laterally for a second. KC Chiefs are unbeaten and every single game has been a one score contest. Would they be any less dangerous if they were 6-4?
I am not saying I am all in on your thoughts here, but I do support some of it. The NFL - unlike the other major U.S. sports leagues - is a 1 & done playoff system. Hot teams at the right time can do great things. I wonder if the mindset is not (1) Win AFC Souf to ensure playoff and 1 home game (2) Get healthy for playoffs (3) Add wrinkles that opponents have not seen during regular season (4) Actually make adjustments in the 2nd half of playoff games (rope a dope style) (5) Ship I would like to believe that there is some bigger strategy at work, but I cannot see it RN. I do support that mindset that we're still a good team and have a solid framework to build off of. Last season set a lot of high expectations and we keep shooting ourselves in the foot on these close games... it leaves a bad taste. Sports psychologists have shown that fans take it extra hard when their team loses a game that they should / could have won versus beating a team that they should probably lose to.
The strategy is SURVIVE right now. Thats it. Get healthy. Not sure why everyone is up in arms. We played what many think is a SB team to the final second. What else can you ask for when you know you didnt have two of your best players going -- two guys that seem to make a difference in every game they play. I get all the emotions trust me I do. Im trying to be nice to everyone who I think is panicking and overreacting because I understand where their feelings ae coming from. THERE IS A TON OF FOOTBALL LEFT TO PLAY!
The Texans will win the worst division in football, but I don't see them winning a divisional round game in the playoffs. But also don't view them as "pretenders." Calling them pretenders is leaning towards delusion. Yes, they hung with the Lions, I gave/give them credit for that. But the Lions played by far their worst game overall. So, the Lions at their worst this season still beat the Texans in their house. Just a view from how people are thinking that are out side of the bias of a lot of Texans fans. Most people like getting a different perspective. Good season again. Celebrate that, but no one is picking them to go deep in the playoffs.
I will be ecstatic if we are putting in work come playoff time. I’m less optimistic that’s the case, but sure as hell hope that comes to fruition.
I think it's utterly insane to be LESS optimistic after the lions game. It was BY FAR our best performance maybe all season outside of the pats? Considering no Nico and no WAJ. I was super impressed and my hope and optimism, which i can't lie had been dwindling, has been fully restored.
I think @Verbal Christ is... right? The offense should not, ever/never/ever, collapse because Nico Collins is hurt. The offensive line is a flaming pile of bad. I'm not sold on Bobby Slowick at all. CJ seems to have taken a step back (even if it's entirely because of the OL, it's a concern). But, also: Nico Collins is *really* good, and him being healthy changes *everything* - the line is better; Slowick is better; CJ is better. I think they beat both Green Bay and Detroit with Nico. And don't forget: the Texans have not played with both Nico *and* Joe Mixon since the 3rd quarter of week 2. Losing your starting RB and best WR makes it hard. Don't agree? Look at Kansas City. I know they're 9-0 - but the difference between the Chiefs and Texans, really, is that Kansas City, with all their experience and know-how, is finding ways to win ugly and the Texans aren't. The Texans are literally two last-second FGs away from basically being KC: 8-2 but every game is a close, ugly slog. Mahomes is having his worst year as a pro. Their offense is a *struggle*. Missing good players is hard. If Collins and Mixon can get/stay healthy and the Texans can band-aid the line (and it *did* look better in the first half against a *very* good defense)... man, all it takes is getting healthy/hot at the right time. This defense looks legit. I'm cautiously optimistic. Not so much that everyone is safe and lets run it back next year - I'd be thrilled to see Slowick leave and, honestly, five new starting OL (or, namely, two new starting Ts) - but the idea this is headed for an early crash in the playoffs... I mean, probably - but I don't think it's a stretch to think this team - fully healthy - still represents a threat in the AFC.

You need to let the fire in their hair burn itself out and allow the venting process to run its course. If we were 4-6 or worse I may not be as optimistic and more prone to want a change, but we're leading our division by 2 games even as "bad" as we are playing! Can you imagine when we start playing "good"? Football is Any Given Sunday. Ive seen this team amp it up and rock and roll with the best. I've seen them play down to the competition and suck. Its a sign of a young team, but the talent is there. The plays are there to be made. The coaches cant strap on a helmet and go do it for them. Nico is THAT MUCH of a difference maker. He wins matchups at the snap. He makes himself available on almost every play. Its no surprise he is CJs security blanket. Everyone else on the roster had a chance to step up. Nobody has besides Tank these last few weeks and even then Tank cant offer you what Nico can. Everybody chill. When you can beat the hell out of a defense with a battering ram like Joe for a few series and have Nico waiting in the wings off play action combined with CJs arm strength its not a matter of if, but when. I hope EVERYONE underestimates this team. I've seen them bully Buffalo, and dance with Detroit. I hope that trend continues with BAL & KC. One thing is certain that when we hit the playoffs we will have played some of the best teams in football. We wont be a 3rd place schedule hitting the postseason and then getting outclassed.
You should be able to review that and face mask IMO. He literally tackled him before the ball was close to getting there.
My favorite part is all the Lions fans who point out that the ball was tipped. Yes, AFTER Arnold has tackled him. Even the veteran retired ref is like "Dude, that's DPI"... lol
