It certainly appears that they would have been better off trading those picks for established players, but someone had to be available and there was really no instant star to replace Harden. The other thing is that these kids are really young. In a league where most players don't hit their peak until ~27 or so, these kids are 21 & 22. That's why I really hate the idea of drafting kids straight out of high school, they are seldom impactful in the near term and by the time they reach that prime age, their rookie contract is far in the rear view mirror. The team that drafts them takes a huge risk Green will be 22 at seasons end and has one more year on his deal, assuming the Rockets pick up the option, at that point he's pretty much comparable to a 4th year college player, when the majority of players come into the league historically - when they make that 3rd year leap, they are 25 not 22. The question is whether they give up on Green after this season should he not make that improvement and run the risk of blowing up elsewhere or do you give him more time?? By all accounts the work ethic is there as he's been working on getting better all summer ... I think the answer lies in what if any improvement he makes this season. He's got to give you something to believe in, otherwise you likely look for his replacement and maybe move him next year while giving Cam a long look at the 2 spot. In that scenario he probably doesn't have a whole lot of value .....
