Not with context to go with it. DB is a dawg and raises this team’s level. He also knocks down open threes. DB is not the problem.
Yeah. Last year when all the advanced stats say Jabari kind of sucks on defense, I was curious so for a couple of games last year, I spent most of the time just watching him in particular on defense. He definitely does not have high level anticipation and positioning you expect from a good defender. Certainly not compared to someone like Brooks. I hope this is something he will naturally improve with experience, cause he certainly isn't that right now.
im out here tryin to in a championship WE BEEN SUCKIN FOR A WHILE, H I GOT RESPECT FOR YOU but i know you had me in mind when u started created this forum BUT IM BUILT DIFFERENT
i seen a video a couple years ago when jabari smith talking to lebron on the court u could tell by his eyes nobody was home bro i got a knack for it
I do think Dillon brings a toughness to the team. It is all about development time for our young guys to me. Jabari’s biggest problem is confidence. Benching him is not going to help. Dillon is a stop gap player on this team that if he stays is destined for the bench. Tari, Amen, and Jabari need the minutes to progress. It is not a punishment to Dillon to trade him, it is what is best for the long-term (even next year) benefit to the team. Dillon is not a starting SF or PF on a contending team. Maybe Jabari isn’t either, but he is 21 and last year outperformed Dillon. All of the bench Jabari to keep Dillon in the starting line-up is based on the first 10 games of this season. If Jabari is still sucking by the deadline then it is much more concerning.
So Jabari last year was benched more than anyone else on this team, and also had the worst plus/minus on the entire roster. Dead last, If I remember correctly. I’d prefer to see Jabari take some of Jock’s weakass minutes, so we can get Cam+Amen+Tari more forward minutes. I’m down to even see more Amen PG minutes. I get your general sentiment, but I still like DB as an example for our young guys.
That's really a statement about how bad at times all our "franchise players" with the highest usage have been so far this year than anything about Dillon. ....also Tari Eason is the correct answer.
Tari Eason since the golden state game has been our best player. But if you are factoring in whole season it's still brooks.
Not a fan of both. Tari and Amen should take all their minutes. Dillon will revert back to his Villain self and we should make him the defensive specialist that he is.
Please keep it coming - Dillon Brooks is the best defender on the team and unlike Thompson he can actually hit a damned 3. This is upsetting - it actually kind of is for all of us - that Jabari is not the 3&D player we wanted and is a second tier defender at best, so you figure you can thread start your way out of it. Good luck.
Minute for minute Eason is the better player and has been all season - he consistently makes plays defensively and he has been far and away the most consistent offensively player all season. The problem is that Udoka has Brooks getting more minutes across the season so maybe he has been more impactful because of that. Honestly I don't care who's minutes get cut but we ned to find a way to free up 8-10 minutes from Brooks or Jabari's minutes to give to Tari and Amen. Brooks can do all the things we love him for with around 25 minutes a game - he doesn't need 30+ minutes....and Jabari honestly never has deserved 30+ minutes and Amen and Tari are too effective to ignore. Tari is a walking chaos machine and Amen is a borderline all NBA defensive wing right now. The idea of Jabari opens a lot of doors for Houston long term but he has to become more consistent both as a shooter AND defensive player to get there and so far I don't think any of us are seeing the growth/development from him so something has to change. Seriously - I'm struggling to see what Jabari got better at over the offseason. He's definitely stronger which is a plus but that's also something that just goes with age. Did he improve as a basketball player this offseason? Someone else called it out - but why is his shot so flat in the NBA when it wasn't like that in college?
His positional size for matching up with Wemby/Chet would be huge. If he doesn’t have it, we are all bummed. A 6-11, 40% three ball with strong defense was thought to be the floor. Can we get some Jabari trade ideas, or are those exclusive to Alperen? Pull yourself together, Jabari.
On Brooks playing 30+ mpg, it should be up to the other players to take those minutes from him. While I agree Tari and Amen deserve more minutes, Brooks is not the one most undeserving of his minutes. I think it is pretty clear to most reasonable people who the Rockets weakest link in the rotation (>15 mpg, not a backup center). Playing Brooks 30 mpg is not optimal for development of Cam, Reed, and Jabari. If the Rockets care an ounce about winning, Brooks should be getting minutes before those 3 except as a backup PG (2 vets in the Top 7 in minutes is pretty barebones for tryng to win games). If the Rockets only care about the development of players during the regular season, Brooks should not be playing 30 mpg, but fans of this position should be honest that they want an environment that matched what the Rockets had under Silas and should not be offended by "Full Silas". Personally, I think development of players also requires the team to know that players are developing well and for players to have positive reinforcement. Detroit for instance has been a much worse environment for winning than the Rockets since last season. They extended Cunningham to the max because they thought he was good despite not having an environment conducive to showing whether Cade was good or not. I think Detroit was right. I'd feel better about that decision for Detroit's sake if they had players around him good enough to allow him to prove it. Would the Rockets know how good Sengun is if FVV and Brooks weren't playing last season? I firmly believe they only had a vague idea of how good Sengun was until they saw him play with FVV and Brooks. I think how Brooks has played with Sengun has laid a blueprint for Amen and Tari to follow. I think the Rockets could play without Brooks without it hurting too much in terms of absolute number of wins and losses except that there might not be much difference between the 4th seed and 11th seed in the west.
For all those idiots that started this thread - Dillon Brooks is still leading the team in net rating by far and it's simply not even close 1. Brooks 14.7 2. Eason 13.5 3. Sengun 11.1 Rockets defensive rating with Brooks on the floor - 99.8 - that would lead the league
