Put Jeff Green at back up 5 and play Aaron Holiday over Reed. Jeff Green spaces the floor for Amen and Tari. Holiday right now is simply a better player than Reed. If Jabari continues to struggle then start Tate over him. If he’s not knocking down open 3, I trust Tate’s defense more than Jabari’s.
So when holiday gets garbage minutes you think wow he is so good he needs more playing time? It’s a vet so he is more confident but I don’t think he’s an upgrade to reed. He will shoot more and pass less. He’s about the same even with reeds rookie struggles.
Holiday played fantastic the entire last season. He’s proven. If Reed is not good enough, then he shouldn’t be playing. Same goes with Jabari, if he continues to brick his threes I would totally start Tate over Jabari.
Anyone that thinks Aaron Holiday would be a catalyst to "unlock" the Rockets offense simply cannot be taken serious. BTW, here's 10 games into his first season Reed Sheppard stats vs 6 year vet Aaron Holiday's stats from last season. I think the Rockets will be ok letting Reed develop and catch up to the lofty contributions that Holiday provides.
1) trade for Giannis 2) trade for Jerami Grant Use any 3 of Sengun, Fred VanVleet, Dillon Brooks or Jabari Smith and picks to get it done By adding Giannis and Jerami Grant you won't need FVv. Opens up Reed Sheppard 3's for sure
In my opinion, Reed should spend a few games with the Vipers. Not as a demotion, but so he can play more, not less. He needs 25 shots per game, and he needs to run the offense for more than a few minutes at a time. My guess is that Reed is probably wondering why he hasn't been sent down, and would welcome the opportunity for more playing time and the chance to hone his shot in game situations. Sure, Reed's being in RGV might lead to more Holiday minutes, but I wouldn't expect a big jump in productivity. In fact, I'd tend to play Amen or Jalen as the backup initiator, and treat Holiday as the emergency or garbage-time guy, same as he is now.
I actually think Reed needs to stay up. He is effective in his minutes played. They will increase over the next year and he will continue to work on his physical abilities.
Ha I just remembered I had a dream last night that I played for the Rockets and I distinctly remembered calling a timeout after a play and yelling at Reed to “shoot the fking ball Rook!” lol
Interesting. One thing I do agree with is the Holliday move. Reed gives almost nothing on offense. He does do some nifty cross court passes or passes to the corner three but overall underwhelming. He isn’t ready. Just like Cam wasn’t ready last year or this year. Not sure when Udoka will pull the plug.
If he's shooting 25 times a game, there is no offense to be run - he'll be the offense. And assuming he's doing it in the G-League, Cam is gonna be pissed.
