Will use Elvis as a jumping off place for this. He died in August 1977. Cable TV was around, but was still growing compared to being leveled off like it is today. CNN wouldn't happen for a few more years and the Internet was still over the horizon. Not every home had an Encyclopedia set, but quite a few did. My parents subscribed to multiple newspapers and a few magazines. It was easier to focus on topics back then because there just weren't that many tempting distractions as there are today. In the present day Internet Cable Smart Phones Etc If one wants to spend time keeping up with JLo, Kardashians, etc it is easy to do. With a few clicks, one can watch videos on Youtube of women attempting to ride Mechanical Bulls. Everybody has the same 24 X 7 to work with and if they allocate a good amount of that time to pursuing Fluff such as the above, they are going to have less time to spend on topics of actual substance.
- Elvis rose to fame largely because he was white - Women are superior to men - Sonic rules over Mario - Guns keep violence and crime rates high as opposed to making life more safe - Hobbit 1st film trumps all in the LotR franchise
The same cartoon Hobbit we all watched as kids? I don't remember the musical part. But that has nothing to do with Elvis.
It's amazing to me that they think "bob" dip is some sort of magical Austin creation, like Austin claims to have invented the breakfast taco. Every hungry idiot has made that themself at one point or another.
Yeah, there were songs. It wasn't singing start to end but there were some. And it was drawn and animated in Japan, which makes it an anime, not a cartoon. But it was still the first 'film' if you don't count an unpublished animation short that was made in the 1960's. Unpopular Opinion: I like modern Austin. Still eclectic and tons of **** to do. And I've been going there for 30 years, back when Austin was still 'weird'. I get it, tech bros, scooters everywhere, California pukes abound, homeless everywhere....that's not exactly an issue with Austin, it's a modern issue.
Anime = cartoon I like visiting Austin, it's just a little bit of a hassle. Cousin of mine went to school at Southwestern ~20 years ago, he had a shirt, same design/font, that said Keep Georgetown Normal
Like for encapsulating the point of the thread but the sonic/hobbit ones made me cry a little bit. ALL of the Pirates of the Carribean movies are good movies. There I said it. They should also make more of them because the lore is awesome. Also Alien. The whole franchise is lit.
The moon should have a name we all are compelled to use. There are tons of moons around planets and we can’t be so egotistical to call ours THE moon. Folks on other planets will be pissed when they find out. I suggest we call it Luna (nod to Bear in the Big Blue House) or maybe Ed. Possibly Stanley.
