After the OKC game, it is clear they are miles ahead of us in the quest for a championship and the fact that they are also a younger roster, is pretty daunting. Let's talk about where all our players are, and if they will be a star. Jalen Green - A streaky offensive player, a guy that can get your 40 on one night and 15 the next, struggles against the better teams, feeds mightily on the lower ones. Where is he on being that star player - to me, he is a potential All star, but is not a guy that you build around, a complimentary player. Overall superstar rating - Unlikely Alperun Sengun - A very good consistent NBA player - one who knows who he is and generally puts up double doubles, but he is probably the closest to his peak as he has been a pro for years and his game is fairly established - a very good NBA player, probably multi time all star. Overall Superstar potential - A very good piece, but not a center piece - and not a superstar. Jabari Smith - Inconsistent - can score some, can rebound some, can defend some, but isn't great at anything and lacks athleticism. Looking more and more like an NBA role player 4th or 5th option. Superstar potential - Not a chance Tari Eason - plays hard, impacts winning very good complimentary role player, makes every team better. Superstar potential - No, he is a keeper, but is not a star and certainly not a superstar Amen Thompson - a jack of all trades, super smart, very explosive - shot is inconsistent but improving. Superstar potential - He is a maybe, he might get there, if he develops a consistent shot, he is wicked smart, has a very high BBall IQ - but if he never becomes a good shooter he will always be a role player. Cam Whitemore - Aggressive offensive player, has that dog mentality, wants to stick it to the opponent - but he is single minded - and doesn't play with others well at the moment. Superstar potential - He is also a maybe - but unless he plays more team oriented - it will be unlikely. Reed Shepherd - A great shooter, wicked smart - bball IQ - but is very small - will need to prove he is not a great shooter but an ELITE shootr. Superstar potential - maybe but unlikely - he needs to shoot, and aggressively hunt his shot. So, while we have a lot of good to decent players, some potential all stars, but we don't have A DUDE.....not a guaranteed top 10 player....... We really need to churn this roster......we are right now stuck in 3-5 every year range....but not ever a championship contender as assembled. DD
forget Shai, Chet also looks more impressive than anyone we have on the roster…not to mention Jalen Williams Jalen Green has the most innate talent on our roster to be a star, but he is not capable of being consistent or efficient…he is the one who most often looks like a star, but it’s always short lived he and Amen are the most talented on the roster…Amen’s ceiling is capped because he can’t shoot at all
Amen is the most likely to become the star we need. Jalen also has the potential. Both are very young and improving. Sengun is potential all star top 3 center, but don’t think he will reach superstar status. People are being way too impatient, especially given the train wreck that was Silas.
We can’t judge our players’ superstar potential because offensive side of the game doesn’t exist for Ime. I’m probably wrong but offensive output determine whether you’re a superstar or not (Luka, Jokic, Embid). Jalen, Sengun, or Amen might get there. They have time and talent to achieve that.
Don't be stupid, none of them were ever stars.....FFS - learn to participate correctly. Also, weird when banned members come back....isn't it. DD
I'd wait to 40 games in. Age 22 is when you see you see the ascension. NINE games in but it's been so so. I still expect Sengun to finish with 22/10/5 and Jalen 24/4/5. The easy shots are there. Make them!!! This would 2020-2021 of the new Era Celtics 2018 Nuggets
As I said I think they both have potential all star in them, but that isn't superstar. OKC has 2 and maybe 3 better than anyone on our roster. DD
Check the efficiency though.....it isn't close....SGA is someone you can clearly see Superstar on, Jalen looks like a quality complimentary piece......more of a microwave scorer than a great leader on the court. DD
Agree that it’s too soon to be making these judgements. But I think people put too much stock in the “age 22” or “third year” jumps. It could be the second year or the fourth, or at a different age — it just depends on the player and system and the players around him. There are so many variables. That said, I hope they have their eyes on Giannis.
I mean, others have been lucky enough to draft STAR players, we have not - and we have had what 4 bites of the apple in the top 4 picks? We are either unlucky, or looking for the wrong types of players, or both. DD
Not only do we not have anything close to a true star, we hardly have any well rounded players who you could just pencil in as a starting caliber player on a contender. Tari Eason has been the only player to play without massive holes in his game to start this season. It’s amazin we’re even over .500 I don’t understand the Jalen or Sengun extensions, Stone’s FO continues to scream mediocrity.
I agree with your points. Stone made a good trade to acquire Sengun so we can categorize him a bit differently, but I do think that Jalen, Jabari, Amen and Reed were all "consensus" picks at their draft position that the front office wasn't going to go away from based on the way the ping pong balls fell. The ceiling of this crew feels like a 2009 Rockets 'scrappy Scolandry' committee. It seems that a lot of fans here forget: there is a reason teams fall into a perpetual rebuilding whirpool in sports. How many sports franchises have we seen rebuild for 10-12 years? What you really need is the #1 pick. There is not a great correlation between drafting 2-5 and fielding a contending team within the next couple of years, unfortunately. Rebuilding comes with no guarantees.
This is false. Ime has a system and can coach offense. In Boston he was especially known for his ATO play calls. It’s time for folks to realize that the roster we have is limited. They are decent players but aren’t superstars you build around for a championship run.
