Tari is that type of player. And we give the the ball a lot more often than we do Jabari when he’s out there. He’s very active obviously, creates havoc and crates his own opportunities. And he does also get the ball more than Jabari. Jabari is too passive standing behind the three point line. But coach does need to recognize that he should utilize Jabari better. Are you saying they shouldn’t run any plays for him? He’s better in midrange than he is at three. Ime needs to explore that a little more. And I’m not “bragging” about him shooting 36%, but rather asking you will you still be so focused on his three point percentage like you are tonight. You kept on and on about 30% three point shooter lol like we get it dude, he’s not starting off great but let’s hope he improves. If he doesn’t, just don’t extend him. I’m a rockets fan first not a player fan first. If Jabari doesn’t work out it is what it is. I just think some folks are getting overly dramatic about certain players only and not other players. There was blame to go around everywhere but most folks were saying “why can’t Jabari make those threes” and dude shot one three pointer . Common now Why no focus on anyone else, only Jabari?
There's only so many plays you can run for a guy who is average at best from 3 and passable from mid range which is the worst shot you can take in modern basketball.
They don’t run any plays for him there. “Only so many plays” lol you act like they spamming Bari at midrange when the opposite is true. We take plenty of dumb midrange shots by much worse shooters. We could afford to give Bari a few to get in his groove. Shai shoots a lot of midrange. Other teams use it successfully when needed. Sure a three is preferred but we basically suck at threes. Need to mix it up a little bit especially when we go on those droughts and score 7 total points in a quarter. Jabari midrange over a smaller player can work every now and then especially when we are unable to score and in big droughts. I never see them run it. It only happens when he gets an offensive board mainly. It’s weird.
That's a strange way to look at it. The point of a play is to generate a better possession than whatever the defense gives you. If he's average at 3, then he should be better than average at a 3 designed for him. Also, average shooting is better than most of our starters so give him a bigger chunk of those shots. I'd rather he take 10 and Jalen take 5. Helps them both do what they do best.
a good playmaker is crucial for the development of most young prospects, instead of giving the youngster a superior playmaker like harden we gave jabari smith the likes of kpj and fvv.
we introduce FVV and DB - JG and Alpi developed making Bari the 5th option Now he never in a rhythm - mostly gets shots off grabbing offensive boards …. His finishing around the basket has regressed as well as his 3pt shooting He avgs 8 attempts a game - that’s 2 shots a qtr - 4/5 of those 8 attempts are 3s It is what it is because Ime hasn’t set a power structure - it should be JG/Alpi Bari FVV DB as options
It's so hard to debate Jabari with people who don't comprehend defense is half the game. Also if he doesn't get stocks then they think he didn't play defense. Tiring.
I'm pretty sure Smith is a solid player but with how sht he looks in our offense system under fvv and ime, he's not gonna improve I just want to see if a real playmaker can raise Jabari Smith game. Hopefully Reed is that one, cause fvv ain't doing it
They don’t understand how offense works either. Some people’s job is just to stand there and be guarded. Jabari isn’t a great shooter yet, but he can’t be left open either. I do think Tari would be better, but the Jabari hate is hyperbolic. Everyone should just pretend he was a 17th pick, realize we couldn’t get Chet or Paolo, and stop b****ing about it.
It’s unfair for Jabari that he was compared to Pablo and Chet coming into the league. Those two were levels above him in skillset even while they were in college. The media sold Jabari as a 6’11 lights out shooter a la Durant and with the lateral movement to play the perimeter. He was not that in college, rarely did he drive or resemble a player capable of going one on one. He also wasn’t a post up player, something both Pablo and Chet have the ability to be. Jabari’s offense in college was taking the open 3 and get put backs down low. He can be a very good 3 and D for this team but expecting him to be the 2nd or 3rd scorer isn’t who he is. He isn’t a bust be he isn’t a star. The sooner he focuses on what the team needs him to be which is to defend the post, rebound and make open 3s the sooner he becomes a valuable asset this team can’t live without.
Also tiring is people continuing to think Jabari’s average to maybe slightly above average defense offsets his well below average offensive output while given starter-level minutes. He’s a bust. It’s clear to anybody watching the games with a modicum of attention. He is firmly unreliable and in no way should continue to start.
Also the notion that defense is “half the game” is so silly. Mavs should trade Luka I guess since he’s a zero on that end.
haha great point. look Jabari is an average 2nd string forward. Amazing to have as your backup, but ppl need to realize he is the Sam Bowie of the draft. I wouldn’t offer him a contract once he’s up, I would trade him in March and get something. He plays 30 min a game, ranked 51st on PER for Pfs in the league. Duncan Robinson would have a better stat line over him.
