I remember thinking Bush Jr was representative of how democracy really worked and it seems the case to this day. People connect on a visceral level & make sure to look out for themselves (single issue) when voting. Obama was a flash in a pan exception to that. I'm not trying to insult a whole constituency just calling out certain people who make reading the board for honest takes so much harder. On a visceral level, Trump is representative of pure selfish ambition & hatred in the world that's already filled with it to a brink all over the place. I'm a world citizen (multiple backgrounds) and like to see it flourish. It's just painful to see that hatred is resonating here & thus signaling its proliferation. It's painful to hear my mom say "sure Trump is crazy but there'll be less criminals on the streets" when she lives in a very safe neighborhood. But yeah liberals totally botched it with the left wing populism. Their coalition is weak atm or rather the other side is amplified to a wazoo thanks to various social fissures that people associate with establishment for lack of easier scapegoat. Plus their candidate both because a woman and due to character was hard to connect with. I thought she should've leaned into being a woman & try to find Obama type of energy by picking Hilary or Michelle as a running mate when Biden stepped away (too late) & embraced some of the suburban women's fears. &Given that neither Ivanka not her stepmother were campaigning, they could've done better with middle class families. Taking an L for being an anti-Trumper. Going to try cope by doing more volunteering and reducing social fissures somehow. Anyways, thanks for spitballing
