Out of all the fantastic tweets so far, and the many more to come (shout out to @SamFisher - please post your video reeee'ing into the clouds). This is one of the best.
I, for the most part, view the vast majority of Trump voters/supporters way differently than you and perhaps others do. I also have perhaps a more uncommon take on personal responsibility. It's not fake cordiality, I live in Texas, I have a large family, most voted Trump, and none I'd call fascist or Nazi or particularly racist. What I mostly think their political motives are as a group when voting. 1. Social vibes go a long, long way. Fitting in with the community and not being team sprite in a team coke area amongst neighbors, co-workers, and friends is a big thing. Trump has the persona of being the underdog, being tough. Republicans in general sell being for freedom, sell not being sensitive (p*****s). Those things are innately attractive to a lot of people. Trump simply does a better job at selling being cool, which I know, is r****ded in the context of government, but I think it matters, it makes a difference. 2. Some do well and want to pay as little taxes as possible. No need to elaborate. 3. The propaganda of "fixing" the border, and now being anti-war is big. In their eyes, we're wasting money that could go to Americans on supporting foreign country wars and non-citizens coming into the country. 4. Most importantly, many view the inflation during covid as a pure result of the Biden presidency and think things will go back to being more affordable under Trump. To top all of that, none of them follow politics very much at all past a very shallow surface level. It's less common for them to watch cable news anymore, most political exposure is through seeing a couple of things on social media and word of mouth here and there. To see 70 million people in the most cynical light possible is a mistake IMO, most of these people aren't balls-deep in hatred and fascism.
