I mean, that's sort of my point. If he starts hitting an All-NBA level, we'd be the only team who can offer him a 5 year supermax contract, hence why I'm curious about the nuances. Besides, what "contender" is going to have $50 million+ in cap space?

You really have no objectivity when it comes to other players that might challenge your homeboy from being top dog on this team. Jumping to conclusions based on Amen’s short career is even more disingenuous than BTG’s constant attacks on Jalen for his 2 1/2 years of very poor play. I personally think we have 3 budding stars on this team that will demand max money and that is a great thing. Why there are “only” fans like yourself befuddles my mind.

I'm not remotely an only fan. I've just never seen anything remotely resembling advanced offense from Amen. Nice try though.

Its not all about money for Jalen. He was already on record saying he wasnt even in the mindframe for a new deal and that he was locked in for the season. I think the new deal was an offshoot of the Sengun deal and done for some optics on both sides, but its not a glowing endorsement obviously. If Jalen busts out I can see him choosing the climate, familiarity over the turmoil that has accompanied him here. Fresh start with a fanbase who wants him from day 1.

The irony though of you trying to frame it based on my homerism when you're probably the biggest Amen homer on the forum is peak Clutchfans though, kudos. For reference, Amen could well be a super star, but his achievements on the offensive end are nothing in comparison to Alpi or Jalen so far, but you think the sun shines out of his rear end and it's very cute.

Meh. That sounds more like the mentality of a final contract, not a pre-prime one. I’ll believe he’ll turn down 5 yrs/275 in 2026 for the possibility of a 4 yr/209 mil contract in 2027 when that happens.

He's making money on various endorsements he'll be fine leaving X amount on the table to pick his team.

But he won’t get to “pick” his team, that’s the thing. He’ll have no idea in 2026 who will have enough cap room in 2027 to sign him to a max. Usually, only non-contenders have that kind of cap room. I believe you are overthinking.

I can see your perspective, but I can definitely see the other side too. At some point you've already made a **** ton of money and extra millions aren't actually going to significantly alter your lifestyle. If he does blow up to a top player in the league in the next couple of seasons whilst being massively underpaid (which he would be if he hits that ceiling) compared to others, you don't think he could potentially feel some kinda way about it? With a fanbase who've spent several years calling him every name under the sun, attacking his partner and his manhood? Are we living in a world where Jalen is apparently both "Insta obsessed" and doesn't read social media?

It’s not 2010. Free agency really isn’t much of a thing anymore.

You make it seem like there is some bad blood between Jalen and the org and I don’t get that vibe. If he earns a max, we will offer him one in 2 years and he’ll likely accept imo.

I could just be convincing myself of this, but I think it’s the case.

Maybe not with the organisation, but have you seen the **** this fanbase says about him? Are we going to pretend "insta model" Jalen doesn't read social media?

Every fanbase has some level of toxicity, especially on the internet.

I don’t think he will find the Sacramento or Clippers or whoever’s fanbase all that different.

yeah, teams don’t really sign young “stars” via free agency anymore. Free agency is for role players and declining stars. If there is “bad blood” between Jalen and the Rockets (which I doubt), it’s far more likely he’ll sign a big deal with us, then ask out a couple of seasons later.

Do you think it's typical for people to say things like "I would've made him a webcam femboy in grade school?" Interesting, not something I've ever really experienced outside of this forum people projecting their weird pedo fantasies on to a player because of his shooting percentage.

Obviously that’s not normal, but I would assume (and hope, for his sake) that Jalen isn’t spending a lot of time on Clutchfans

This is the first contract of its kind in the new CBA all of the old notions and expectations are out the window. Jalen having the chance to pick his team is huge. THAT doesnt happen because of the long term high ticket contracts and the 0% chance he could dictate a landing spot if the team were going to trade him because he wants to bolt.

Jalen has all the leverage and reason to ball out. All we can do is enjoy the ascent and hope he sticks around. The kicker is that if he does choose to leave the ability to recoup anything in the process will be slim to none with the quick 3 year deal.

Of course he can pick his team and probably why he asked for the trade kicker during the 3 year mini contract. Houston has no leverage if Jalen busts out. Teams could literally just wait out the contract if he's impactful enough as a franchise player. Teams make cap space all the time its not an insurmountable obstacle especially to the LA teams and GS.

Again, with all due respect, I think you are stuck in the past. What you are describing hasn’t happened in over a decade. Certainly not since the 2016 CBA, which introduced incredible incentives for young players to resign with their own teams. Green’s not going to turn down the 100+ million more in guaranteed money he could make sticking with us because of some made up grudge. And that’s not an exaggeration — if it makes an all NBA team, we’ll be the only team who can sign him at 5 yrs/30% the cap on his next contract and 5 yrs / 35% on the following.
