If he was referencing a landfill crisis in Puerto Rico, that would make the joke less funny. The joke derives its humor from setting up an expectation -- ohh, we're talking about all the trash that ends up in the ocean and then accumulates into a single floating mass -- and then defying that expectation by pivoting to mean something else -- ohh, it's not the ocean trash we're talking about, it's the trash humans in Puerto Rico! How funny! Har har har! If the pivot is instead -- oh we're not talking about the trash floating in the ocean, we're talking about the trash overflowing a landfill on land, which happens to be in Puerto Rico -- well, you're not surprised and delighted by that pivot. It's stupid and pedantic. That said, I find the pearl-clutching over the Puerto Rico joke to be over the top and tedious. I mean, if you want to be offended, that's fine. And, if that's the thing that flips your vote from Trump to Harris, that's pathetic but I'll take it. But, I'm surprised it's still in the news given that it came out of a comic's mouth and not from Trump or any surrogate. And I'm surprised that the Trump campaign is retreating on this instead of doubling-down per usual. And that people on twitter are trying to rationalize that the joke was not an insult to Puerto Ricans. I can understand the emotion, but that's a freaking terrible idea. For one, it'd be a widespread violation of people's civil rights. And two, MAGA would take that as all the evidence they need that we live in tyranny and they must water the tree of liberty with the blood of patriots. We learned at Kent State and again at Jan 6 that showing up undermanned can lead to disaster. But, we have also seen in many other protests and riots in the intervening years that you can let people protest and have their voices heard by stepping back but holding the line with riot control and arrests for those who go too far to keep protest from devolving into complete anarchy and violence. Law enforcement already takes ample license to kill when they think there is danger. We don't want to do anything to make them feel more empowered than they already do. I wonder who I'm going to get!
they need to be met with overwhelming force Cops shooting violent people is a violation of civil rights since when? They do it all the time and get away with it these are domestic terrorists…y’all love to handle MAGA with kid gloves "Some of these online users have encouraged violence against ideological opponents related to the use of mail-in voting while others promoted methods of sabotaging ballot drop boxes. Other individuals are using online forums to call for violence against local election officials in response to allegations of fraud." none of this is simple protesting and letting your voice be heard
some of y’all still don’t realize the type of people we’re dealing with when it comes to MAGAts…this mindless drone just got arrested today Arizona investigators surveilling the man accused of shooting at the Democratic National Committee office in a suburb of Phoenix saw him posting political signs with bags of a white, powdery substance attached, officials said. Investigators in Tempe began surveilling Jeffrey Michael Kelly, 60, as a suspect in three separate shootings of the DNC office after receiving tips from the public, Tempe Police Chief Kenneth McCoy said at a news conference Wednesday. They watched Kelly placing the signs with the bags attached from late Monday into Tuesday morning, the chief said. Kelly was arrested Tuesday on three felony counts of acts of terrorism and seven other counts related to the shootings, court records show. The state added three additional felony counts of making false terrorism reports Wednesday night, bringing the total number of counts to 13. “It’s the state’s belief that Mr. Kelly poses the most extreme danger within a democracy and within our community,” prosecutor George Kelemen said. “Trying to disrupt political activity, aiming violence at a political party, is completely, completely out of bounds.” In addition to the bags of powder, Keleman said the signs placed by Kelly had utility knife blades attached to the edges. It was not immediately known what the powdery substance was. With the additional felony charges, a judge doubled Kelly’s bond to $1 million cash, an amount his attorney argued was completely out of reach. “Five hundred thousand dollars might as well be $5 billion” for Kelly, defense attorney Jason Squires told the judge. Maricopa County Jail records showed Kelly was still incarcerated as of Thursday night. Kelly was not asked to enter a plea at Wednesday’s hearings. Officials believe weapons stockpile points to ‘potential mass casualty event’ More than 120 guns and more than 250,000 rounds of ammunition were found at Kelly’s home following his arrest, prosecutors said at Kelly’s initial court appearance Wednesday. Investigators believe he may have been planning a mass casualty event, prosecutors said. “Obviously … those numbers of guns as well as those numbers of rounds are certainly a factor that you would consider,” Mitchell said at the news conference.
Bannon out of prison and already starting up his Trump butt kissing today. Gee, I wonder why? Just another Trump associate and criminal wanting Trump to return the favor by pardoning him a second time. Bannon faces additional criminal charges in New York state court, alleging he duped donors who gave money to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. Bannon has pleaded not guilty to money laundering, conspiracy, fraud and other charges. A trial in that case is scheduled to begin in December.
Musk says Americans will have to face 'hardship' if Trump wins Trump has said he'll put the tech billionaire in charge of government "efficiency" if elected. That won't be good for Americans' wallets. The whole, you-must-suffer-for-your-country thing certainly smacks of authoritarian propaganda. And I think we can all rest assured Musk — a billionaire many times over, who has already benefited greatly from government investment — won’t be enduring any true hardship if his plan is ever implemented. For the record, this plan would match cuts implemented by Argentina's far-right, pro-Trump president, Javier Milei, who has developed a cult following in today’s GOP. And if that’s Musk’s model, Americans have a lot to fear. Those policies have helped skyrocket Argentina’s poverty rate to over 50% in the first six months of Milei's presidency. The hardship Musk is predicting sounds quite hard, indeed. Between Trump repeatedly praising the Gilded Age and Musk priming everyday Americans for "hardship" if MAGA retakes the White House, it seems quite obvious that a vote for Trump is a vote for extreme wealth inequality and all the suffering that comes with it. https://www.msnbc.com/the-reidout/reidout-blog/elon-musk-trump-hardship-austerity-taxes-rcna177732
Milei is far libertarian right. He is a self-described anarcho-capitalist. That's what makes him great and that is what is saving Argentina.
