G-League him, put the ball in his hands and let him run the offense. Bring him back after we inevitably dump FVV’s 40mil contract for a couple of 2nd rounders.
It feels a bit early to remove him from the rotation to me. They need to win these games though, so Udoka's going to play his best lineups. I'm hoping he gets another chance soon, but the Vipers might be getting a new point guard in the meantime.
You can only realistically play a 9 man rotation in the NBA in competitive games, and Whitmore has played well enough to supplant him for now in that 9th spot. It's fine -- he's 20 and played 4 NBA games. We have time.
It's that he's a point guard... and he's doing what a point guard does.... look to create looks for others before looking to shoot. Should he shoot more? Probably, but I'm not going to fault a young guard for passing up a 3 to create a much better look for a big or to keep the ball moving to someone for a better look from 3.... both of which happened last night in the 3 minutes Udoka let him play. Maybe Udoka wants him chucking a shot every time he touches the ball, but that's just not how a smart player is going to operate.
There was no need to play FVV 40 minutes last night and play Sheppard only 3. It's a sign of a coach that isn't good at rotations and if he doesn't get better it'll cost the team wins and lead to injuries.
LeBron said that the Lakers can't send Bronny to the G-lesgue, prior to drafting him. Well Bronny is being sent to the G-lesgue No shame in Reed spending time there either https://www.marca.com/en/basketball/nba/los-angeles-lakers/2024/10/26/671d3d06268e3e65578b456d.html
There's no shame in it, but it would hurt the Rockets. That said, if Udoka is too pathetic at rotations to give the kid playing time, he might as well get it somewhere... especially considering there's no chance FVV stays healthy if Udoka keeps playing him 40 minutes.
I mean, I guess. Not sure if it would have made much of a difference had Reed played 5 - 6 minutes with FVV playing 37 - 38. Yeah, Ime relies on FVV a little too much, but there's a reason why FVV has really good on/off stats. We generally play much better with him on the floor.
Haha LeBron said Bronny was better than half the players in the NBA (while he was at USC) He was eye-balling Jalen Green side eyed
We play better with Fred on the floor and our young and rookie point guards aren't as good yet, which is normal. Fred gives us a better chance to win and hit a dagger three last game to close it out. That is a good coaching decision and logical.
Ime gets blasted when the Rockets lose......blasted when the Rockets win (for not playing Sheppard enough?). Udoka said he didn't want project raw rookies before the draft. He doesn't want to hold their hands baby sitting them. While with Boston Udoka started off something like 18-19 before the Celtics went on a tear. Many said back then that Udoka had to set a pecking order between Tatum, Jaylen, and Smart. So far it looks like Jalen Green has been moved to number 1.....Sengun-VanVleet need to find out their nitch.
There's a big difference between playing 40 minutes and playing more like 33 which is what it should have been. Riding the same players all game against fresh players is a big part of why the lead was lost. If Reed was playing poorly when on the court, that would be one thing, but he hasn't been. He was on the court for 3 minutes and he created an easy 2 for Sengun and helped create an open 3 with a hockey assist. It wouldn't matter if what Udoka was doing was leading to good outcomes but the rotations he went with lost a 20 point lead and made the game a lot more stressful than it should have been.... and it's going to lead to player injuries if it continues.
The GLeague as a Minor satellite league starts later than the NBA season, they can't even send him right away, might as well grant him NBA reps until Halloween and beyond. It starts November 8th....
Yeah, no. I completely disagree with this assessment. The three players (aside from Adams) with significantly positive +/- scores were Brooks, Green, and FVV. And, by no coincidence, they all played 37+ minutes. Any coach worth his salt is doing that. If FVV only played 33 minutes last night, we likely lose.
I know what the G-lesgue is........it's the league where Reed needs to be now. Dude is afraid to drive and get his shot blocked. Dude is scared to launch his shot because a defender is within 3 feet of him. Is defense is being targeted by opponents. His mid range was there, but now he can't even make that. Why do you want the guy even more demoralized? It's not going to get better as teams get a scouting report.......it will get worse. At least his PER is not as bad as Bronny ( -12.3 ).... No Reed is just a PER of 5.4
I strongly disagree. Playing them all that much is why the Rockets lost a 20 point lead and needed one of the best games Jalen Green had ever played and last second heroics by FVV to barely eek out av win against the ****ing Spurs. Let's not forget that the Spurs are a bad team. There's large portions of the game where more intelligent rotations would have helped keep that lead by keeping guys fresh. A competent team beats the Rockets by 20 last night despite Jalen's big game. Right now they aren't playing winning basketball and a lot of it is coaching.
