There is little reason to believe Sengun won't improve on offense, there's too much data to show these are just outliers. The concern however is on defense. He was struggling a lot agains the Spurs, and he really needs to be better.
He had 12/12/5 this game. If that's doing nothing then everyone must be doing nothing out there. He also made a bunch of great passes and players kept missing open threes. As long as we aren't hitting threes teams will pack the paint against him and force him to pass and that is what's happening so far this year when he is in the game. So far this season he's been missing some easy shots he normally hits and this usually happens to him first few games of season. He will start hitting them and everything will be right in the world. What's encouraging is he's hitting his threes and his form on his shooting is significantly better.
Harden's not an Ime kind of guy, so I get it. The thing that Harden does better than anyone in the league is to get easy shots for teammates. We could use that badly but, at the time, they were trying to instill a denensive mentality.
Just need Alpi to remember his fighting spirit and we'll be a team to be reckoned with now. That's going to make a world of difference.
Im sure sengun will do much better but against the spurs he played pretty poorly and got bench/mins limited. Some sengunatics just can't acknowledge that. Only game to me so far where he was playing like a franchise player was game 1.
I feel like we should give at least some credit to Wemby for Alpi not having the best two games..? He’s already one of the best defenders in the league, and this is him at his most mobile. I’m not worried about Alperen Sengun, he earned his contract and I believe he will outperform it. Also, Jalen and Alpi are both on OUR TEAM. They seem to like each other, the coaching staff seems to like them, so why does it always seem like an “either-or” situation to so many people? I’m ecstatic to have both
Especially after Brooks has shut him down 3 or 4 times already. When he's on the perimeter, Brooks can get up under him and attack his handles. When Wemby goes inside, he's too big for Brooks to prevent him from catching the ball and he can easily shoot over him.
He'll get there. Just remind yourself of all the times he's shown his character. Complaining during the Silas years that people weren't pissed off at losing the way he was. Complaining at not being coached hard. No way he's gonna take this lying down, he'll come back with a vengeance and then we'll really start cooking.
When Green inevitably starts folding against tough teams and Sengun starts balling out as he always does people will come here to glaze him up like a 2 dollar w**** who desperately needs money for crack. STAY ON THAT SIDE.
No one is saying he's playing well but to say he was doing nothing out there is crazy. We expect more out of him cuz he's one of our best players but 12/12/5 is still pretty good.
Let's just hope Wemby's soft and doesn't like banging inside. He's a lot easier to stop on the perimeter, I genuinely don't think anybody CAN stop him if he learns to just get deep position and dunk over the top of them.
Yeah, Wemby is so long, it's tough to shoot over him. He's also put on 20 lb this season so he's not as easy to move. Wemby is to Sengun what Eaton was to Olajuwon. They both tried a bunch of fakes, but they don't need to go for them because of the huge height advantage. Hakeem learned to start on the perimeter and drive the ball past Eaton. Once he started that, he owned the matchup. Not sure what Sengun needs to do. Posting up Wemby isn't promising. Wemby is also quicker than Sengun so driving it past him is tough too.
Not really as the franchise player, I think he should do better. I don't think it's unrealistic for me to note when he played poorly the two spurs game. That type of statline is below even normal sengun standard. Didn't even mentioned how sochan was physically bullying sengun.
Agreed. I hope every 3 he hits ends up on ESPN highlights so he keeps shooting them. He's also a much better passer from the post.
I only replied because you said he was a no show which just isn't true. We all expect him to play better and he will. Sochan was bullying everyone out there; go back and watch it even when sengun went to bench we had no answer for Sochan.
I actually hate that ginger mother****er as much as Wemby at this point. It's a shame Dillon had to be on Wemby, we could really use him playing some bully ball on guys like that.
He needs to bully ball him without fouling tbh. He's done it before, it's a positioning and strength thing. Wemby's over a foot taller than me but I bet he weighs less than me soaking wet. Alpi needs to get low and just push him out the way then use the basket to protect the ball. He'll figure it out again, it's going to be a common match up for us and he'll have time. I'm more worried about what we do on the other side of the ball, Sengun's one of the top post players in the league, don't stress that side of it.
