Except he didn’t hit 3s. He made 5 in 11 games, aka he made nothing. Nobody is guarding him out there, even you know it’s utter nonsense

Because our starting center is clogging up the paint & slowing down our offense. During the winning streak this didn't happen

You're misinterpreting why that was though. It's not because Landale shot better from distance, it's because he's just not as much of a focus and is more of a "get out of the way and let them cook" kinda player.

Yeah but Jock is more of a outside threat than Sengun & doesn't live in the paint. That opens up the court for driving lanes

He isn't though, not this year. Sengun's hitting more deep shots than Landale. Landale isn't an outside threat, he just doesn't need to go in the paint because he's mostly irrelevant on offense until we have to rebound. Stop making **** up.

So, I may be getting ahead of myself, but what if Green starts getting All NBA consideration in a couple of years? Will he really want to sign a 5 year/25% max in the 2026 offseason? Can such a contract have a built-in supermax escalation?

I'd be more worried on whether they have the money to offer him a max. According to the majority of the board "Amen is the player with the highest ceiling by far" and you have to pay Jalen the year after if you pay Amen.

I'm not seeing it from Amen so far this season. I think he'll be a great defender/role player at a minimum, but his offense has been atrocious. Again, very small sample size.

Agree. All of his offensive actions (with the exception of his jump shot) seem to be rushed. One of the things that I was most impressed with last year was that he played at his own pace and seemed to have good vision. Not sure what's going on this year but I need him to get back to that form. With his size and strength he doesn't have to rush anything.

Until defenders step up on him instead of sagging off him and giving him 5 ft of space terminally, it's going to be really hard to make him a on ball dominant max type player that people are hoping he becomes.

And unfortunately this Rockets offense is so generic, that they aren't going to get creative in how to utilize Amen's unique talents and highlight them.

Honestly the way the offense is run now with very generic pnr and post plays, the only type of players who can excel are Green and Sengun and Sengun is struggling now.

The good thing about the Rockets offense.... You aren't going to have to pay a bunch of young guys max contracts because only a couple of players can succeed enough in this offense to get that type of contract.

Reed, Cam, Amen, Bari... It's just going to be hard for these guys to show enough to get Max contracts under a Ime offense.

I've never seen it from Amen. He's never once at any point in his career looked like either 1.A competent PG or 2.An alpha scorer. So where's this high ceiling? He's athletic? Cool, so's Jalen, but he's actually been able to use it to put up monster performances every single season so far. That narrative of "anybody can do it with a green light" is nonsense, because Jalen's one of less than 5 players who actually have. Everybody's acting all surprised that he's doing what he's doing now, except for the people who've been saying for 3 and a bit years that this is exactly what was going to happen because we paid attention to him doing things that almost nobody else has ever done, it's not a coincidence. Amen looks like he may be an Igoudala type to me, with more athleticism and less scoring prowess.

That's pretty far away, but I'm not too worried about it. Say we sign Jalen and Amen to a max in the 2026 offseason. The trick will be to align FVV and Brooks' contracts so they come off when those extensions kick in. That'll be just around 70% of the cap between Amen, Green, and Sengun (~77% with Sheppard), so they'll be plenty of room to resign our guys. Again, that's best case scenario with Amen earning it. He's far from that point at the moment.

Bumping as I didn't really get an answer to this.
    • In the 2026 offseason, if Green opts out and we give him a 5 yr/25% max, can that contract include supermax escalators?
    • If Green someone makes an All NBA team in the next couple of season, can we sign him at 5 yrs/30% even if that is more than a 140% raise?

Jalen is going to Cali bro 100% -- the team had a chance to get him locked up and instead they wanted to get creative. Writing is on the wall for me. Enjoy the glow up and then we'll see who comes in next to hopefully mesh better with Sengun.

I doubt it, if only because we can offer him the bag way before anyone else. We can extend him as early as 2026. I doubt he turns down a 5 year max in a couple of years.

He needs the minutes. He’s pressing on his drives. His 3 pointer has improved. Amen is going to be a big part of our success this year. So many people writing off Amen after about 50 games in the rotation is ridiculous. Even more ridiculous than writing off Jalen after 3 years.

I hope you're right, but if he starts getting all-nba type of consideration to where he could command an actual super-max level contract I could see him just opting in to the 3rd year with no extension and jumping for a humongous contract with a contender if we're not actually there yet. It's the risk you take giving a player a lesser contract when everybody else in his draft class is getting full max deals. He's bet on himself, and our team doesn't even view him as their best player/prospect and made that clear to him. In his position I'd definitely be considering moving home to play for the team I grew up supporting if I was in his position and that was a potential way to go with max money.
