ClutchFans Game Thread: Grizzlies @ Rockets 10/25/2024

Good job by everyone. Everybody showed up tonight which is great to see. Memphis arent a joke, they are a legit play in team so to dunk ln them by 20 pts is a statement.

Jabari, Sengun, Tari and Green are my players of the game. Jabari in particular worked his butt off and dominated the Memphis PFs.

I've seen this since preseason but JG has become an above average perimeter defender. He has been really good at staying in front of his man and had countless deflections and blocks. At least 3 times he deflected the ball at the rim but we lost the rebound. Now he just needs to cut down on the heat check shots and he is an elite NBA player. Finished with 22/6/5/3/1 50% from 3 with 8 attempts, amazing job. Nobody can stop him driving and penetrating so I hope does more of that.

Sengun is Sengun. He struggled with Edey height but still put up 16/15.

Amen and Tari locked people up in the 3rd quarter. Whitmore did so much damage in limited minutes and even Reed played a bit better than usual.

This is a statement game I just hope Rox dont relax and get clowned by Spurs tom.

 

Hold my hands up also, I was too hard on Jabari. Great bounce back game for him tonight.

 

You're obviously nitpicking my exaggeration but I know you know what I mean. Some folks here expect him to deliver all star numbers and believe me, I do so to but in the grand scheme of it all, I am happy to see him progress and if that equates to winning then that is the most important thing. In this game, he did do what is needed: score and defend. Did he score efficiently? No but he never let that stop himself from doing other things such as trying to make some defensive stops or trying to find the open guy.

 

He started taking really dumb shots in the 4th, but if the jaters really think jalen green had a sht game, they really just outting themselves as simple box score watchers.

 

Great game from Jalen tonight but that was selfish af at the end there, you can say both

 

Loved watching Tari terrorizing the other team on the perimeter and hitting open 3s.

If we can play defense at the level and the tenacity with which we played tonight consistently, I think we have a decent shot at the playoffs.

 

It was actually the opposite of the first game, pretty meh in the first, then great in the second. Also Memphis shooting reverted to normal.

I agree, but the dude I was replying to wasn't saying that. He was saying Jalen played bad and had nothing to do with the win. I even said at half time that he stunk up the joint in the 1st quarter. His last couple of attempts were trash too. I'm fair with Jalen, his haters? Nah, they all clown.

 

it's one thing to say he was being selfish at the end, it's another to think he was garbage this game.

 

Even with the box score outside of that fg% it's obvious the dude was active while limiting turnovers when he led the team in assists and steals and having the highest +/-


The defense displayed by Tari, Amen, Jabari and Green tonight was just breathtaking.

Edit: I forgot Cam specifically in the fourth. He had that stretch of great defense and bucket making.

You watched the game but didnt understand anything on the court. Jalen kept this team alive in the 2nd after Memphis got an 18 pt lead.

Even the plus minus says Jalen Green had a great game you just dont know ball.

 

Had the rockets lost, is it still considered a good game for Jalen?

you win with him. you lose with him. until the team get someone to bite for him or his contract runs out, it is what it is.

 

Probably one of the best combined defensive effort I've seen our team play. If only we could erase the first half from our brain

 

I love how Tari randomly dapped up Sengun on the bench, that was wholesome. If we can get that gif it would be eternal

He was absolutely putrid defensively in the first quarter.

People need to call a spade a spade and not gloss over that fact when it occurs.

TO HIS CREDIT THOUGH - he picked it up immensely throughout the remainder of the game and had several defensive highlights.

Which harks back to exactly the point of what we all want to see - Jalen being consistent.

Defense is mindset and effort - it's not glamorous and rarely ever gets the highlight replays unless your name is LeBron or Giannis chasing down a block - which is why it's all the more impressive when players feel the need to do it from tip off to the final buzzer.

Jalen could shood 8/21 every single game of the year and I'd still love him if he played with defensive intensity every play he was on the floor. (but he doesn't... yet [hopefully], thus I'll still nitpick when necessary about him taking horrible ball hog shots that he has no right in taking with his record)
