Or we should ask ourselves what are the chances that he opts out. I think that is on par with the trade question. Does Stone really know his players psychologically well enough. Basically you give him 2 plus 1 years but you also grant him a lot of freedom to do his own stuff which is unheard of with younger players. (Under 25)
A team led by Cade Cunningham broke the record for most losses in a row in one of the worst NBA conferences....ever. People seem to gloss over this a lot.
Wemby also had a very bad record but people seem to think he is the Face of the NBA very soon. And Cade is very far from being Wemby. I think the real gripe is that Cade should not be classified as 1A just yet. He is a 1b or 2 player. In some cities the 1b player still gets the Max, it happens.
One thing that's important to know about analytics is that they do not account for potential, they don't even try to quantify it, nor do they claim to. All they do is measure what you put on the court. Most young players show promise in certain areas, but also have major deficiencies, and also make frequent rookie mistakes to the point that they don't grade out very well. So no, Barnes is not a max player, not even close. But these contracts are based more on potential than what you've already proven on the court. So unless you're a Luka or Lebron tier player, most of the time the rookie maxes are banking on potential. It's hard to use analytics as justification since most of the rookie max guys are putting a product on the floor that is roughly equivalent to a mid-level roleplayer, in terms of analytical impact.
Barnes metrics are pretty good actually, he was 32nd in vorp and 24th in bpm. I can't look at epm anymore since i don't pay for it so not sure where he ranked on that. His 2nd season was a big downer so people soured on him. He also had a +7 on/off last season which is good (of course one season plus/minus isn't all that significant). I feel like rookies like the ones from the 21 class never got rookie max deals in the past, only the legit proven guys actually got it. I could be wrong though but feels like teams hand them out like candy now.
very low bar to say he's better than Cade who also appears to be a bust. I wouldn't want either one on the team and especially at this $$$.
Clown post... Surely it was that preseason game and not the potential he's shown for large stretches of each season where he's had games in which he's outplayed other elite star players in service of a win... Not things like the amount 30+ & 40+ games(on high efficiency btw) for a 22 year old(basically everyone else on that list next to him were/are bonafide stars) He's had games where he's outperformed LeBron, Giannis, Jokic, SGA, etc... Yes he's been inconsistent, but those stretches have shown he has the ability to play at a high level that many cannot and if he can sustain a larger level of consistency over the course of a full season, then he's a surefire star.
Giving green this contract before seeing if he makes any jump this year is insane bc he's shown over and over that he isn't it. He's like a lighter version of jordan poole, he jordan bathtub
And wasting time but the Pistons have won 1 more championship than the Rockets. And they have won 2 more NBL titles when the NBA was still named National Bball League.
Jalen needs the offense ran through him. When Jock was the center Jalen flourished as the primary scorer. We need a big that can space the floor
You didn't attempt to watch any actual games, which means you're lazy & only chase box scores stats. Stick to fantasy basketball
A true basketball terrorist. Does absolutely nothing for a whole quarter then looks electric in the next just to look like a bum in the remainder of the game. Just get this bum out of this team next season please.
