Overpay in money per year, made up by the flexibility of shorter years. I’m comfortable with the contract, however what people aren’t talking about is what this signals for how the team views Jalen, with only two years locked up and a potential unrestricted free agency where Jalen can leave for nothing, this deal was more about extending the shelf life of an asset rather than investing in a core part of the team long term. In contrast, if what we are hearing about negotiations with Sengun are true, I’m guessing they are offering the same annual salary as Jalen except for the full 5 years, which shows the team IS committed to him as a core piece.
Why did we give up our cap flexibility this summer? Was Tillman being cheap again? This makes no sense.
Your post is the one that makes no sense. Rox actually opened up more money since JG signed for less than his cap hold.
No one was maxing him, and he knew it. He was in a prove it year and he knew he couldn't prove it so he took the deal on the table to rip the Rockets off for several more seasons.
Keep hating. Just dont disappear when JG has good games and then keep spamming the game threads when he has bad games.b
If that was true then the Rockets would have offered $35m over the full 5 years instead of protecting themselves with a shorter deal.
What silly conclusions. If Jalen is playing well, we’ll extend him for 4 yrs 227 mil. He is literally making a few million more than Suggs per year. Anyone who thinks this is an “overpay” is simply hating.
