It would be cool if Green is worth this type of money in a couple of years (would be cooler if he starts kicking ass as soon as this year).

The KPJ deal was dumb. A really really bad bet This Green deal is solid. Green gets significantly less than max which is extremely team friendly, but has the two year out if he proves himself.
It's not much more than Green's cap hold. If the Rockets planned on keeping him it doesn't effect cap space for this offseason. Sengun on the other hand, that would eat a ton of it.
in two years that 56M might be just a 35M now depending how much cap rises. Also that 2 yrs is technically 3 yrs since the deal starts in 2025.
Give me a break. Circumstances are also different since Green has higher draft capital. Plays into contract stuff.
This could be an incredibly stupid deal. There was zero reason to give him anything until he proved he actually earned it.
Feigen just reported this: "Talks are ongoing with representatives of Rockets center Alperen Şengün, the person familiar with negotiations said, though the deal would be different from Green’s unusually short extension agreement." Two days ago, Shams already said that the Rockets would not give maximum to Green and Sengun. I don't think Sengun will accept a contract below 5Y/200M. I doubt Rockets and Sengun can reach an agreement. If Sengun doesn't get the offer he wants, he'll go RFA.
This is nonsense because Green is not a rookie, this is his fourth year and he already reaped the rewards of being picked higher with his rookie contract.
i don't know anything about contracts but GSW extended Curry to a low extension (because he was always hurt. i think) which allowed them to fill that team with killers. it's happening.
It's a gamble to lock up such an inconsistent player, even short term. He hasn't shown a significant positive effect on the floor with any regularity thus far, However there's a ton of upside, could be a stroke of brilliance.
But if you wait till he “proves” it, you’d have to pay significantly more to extend him. Rox took a gamble. There are some risks of course. But it’s a safe bet imho.

I don't doubt that this was something that was taken into consideration by Jalen and team. He and Sengun really do have a close relationship, they're going to be our dynamic duo for many MANY, years to come. Even if it's much to the chagrin of most here.
His shooting is inconsistent but his defense and playmaking has already been good since last year. Signing any player to a long term deal is always a gamble regardless who it is just look at Kawhi Clippers.
Good: Keeps the total guaranteed money down, and limits downside risk of having a bad contract on the books out until 2031. There's probably real but intangible benefit to team performance by getting a deal done and eliminating the risk of weird vibes this season Bad The PO sucks for the team. Really limits any upside that this is a "good" (rather than neutral) contract. Even if Jalen pops over the next couple years, he'll be expecting a ~$60M AAV extension in 2026 or he goes to unrestricted free agency. TBD We don't yet know all the details. The Rockets have a history of letting the player/agent win the press conference and disclosing incentives and payment structure later if they're team-friendly (see, FVV). Is some of this incentive-based, and is there front-loading, like the Vassell and Quickley contracts? We'll see. If the team is going to extend Sengun (and we know they are trying), there's literally no reason for Jalen's deal not to be front-loaded.
