I don't see any reason for Reed Sheppard to go down to the G league unless he gets hurt or something to work his way back. He'll get plenty of minutes relieving FVV and Jalen. He's the 3rd pick in the draft, he's going to play.

I don't know why Reed is so polarizing here. It's like some people think he's gonna be a scrub that doesn't play and some people think he's going to be a better version of Steph Curry.

There's a lot of room in between those two for Reed to have a long productive career.

I also can't figure out why his detractors chop on him so hard and some seem to want him to fail. LOL, he hasn't even played a single regular season game yet. It reminds me of the Amen hate orgy when he returned from illness/injury in the middle of last season. You'd think people would learn.

I don’t think reed needs any time. He is what he is minus needed adjustments. I think he’ll see meaningfull minutes from the get go.

I do not get why sending him to the Vipers is so bad......the Rockets used to send players like DMO to the Vipers and everyone loved Motiejunas.

The Rockets among other teams have made the GLeague a great second option rather than demotion and some fans are still treating the GLeague as a stinking hole ....that is plain wrong.

It's not bad, it's just dumb. You don't send your best players to the G League, you send raw guys who need development.

You might as well have people suggesting we send FVV and Sengun down to RGV.

It's not so bad at all. It just might not happen if he proves to be better than Holiday as the backup PG, or is close enough to where they value his development over some marginal productivity from Holiday.

The value of the gleague isnt in question. It has its merits.

Ime has been trying to find MORE mins for Reed if people have paid attention. Hes even planning on playing him and Fred together some so he can get him on the floor more.

Anyone talking about gleague at this point either hasn't been paying attention or just wishing on a star to make their prediction come to fruition. Him and Amen are the top subs off the bench.

Id guess hed see more starters minutes this season (when Fred needs games off) than he does in the gleague.

I don't see how anyone can objectively believe Reed should be sent to G-League to start the season. Completely nonsensical IMO.

Give him a chance to succeed or fail. If he's terrible and useless the first 10-15 games, sure enough.

He doesn’t need to go to the G league.

There would be some benefit in letting him play 35 minutes down there and take 18 shots BUT I think it’s better if he just plays 15 minutes with us. It’s going to make us a better team. He is already ready to have a positive impact at the NBA level.

How do I know he is not going to the D league?
Preseason game with FVV on the floor. Technical foul. Everyone knew he was going to take the freebie, he took it. He missed it but still. Respect.

Holiday's, who looked utterly lost during the pre-season, and rarely passes the ball considering how much he handles it when on the court.

Any argument that Holiday is better than Sheppard is indicative of an ulterior motive.

From what I have seen so far Reed Sheppard is better than Holiday as a backup pg. Reed has shown some playmaking chops and his defense and bball IQ are a lot better than Holiday day 1.

With that said Reed is lucky he is going into the team in Y4 and with the Rox already being lead by Sengun, Jalen and co. If this was the early year of the rebuild he will be murdered for his shooting so far. Remember all the hate Jabari got for his rookie year?

If include both Preseason and SL Reed Sheppard has been disappointing as the 3rd overall pick. Where are all the guys who kept saying he would torch the league with his shooting? That he was super athletic and by far the best rookie in the class? I got so much hate for pointing out he was 6'1.75 with trex arms and now we are seeing how much he is struggling.

@cmoak1982 you kept insisting he is as athletic as Stephon Castle how come their boxscores are so much different? Castle even outshooting him in 3s in both SL and preseason yikes. This is a lesson for you not to drink so much koolaid and think just cuz a player dominates NCAA he will do the same in the NBA. And this isnt even the NBA just preseason and SL.

Hopefully RS turns it around soon I am rooting for him.

Lol Vecenie, he did the extra lap because he shot poorly prior, to motivate himself.

If you think he is struggling or needs to “turn it around soon” you fundamentally misunderstand rookies and preseason. Missing a few three pointers - for a guy who has absolutely pure form and a history of shooting well - is not “struggling”. That is not what he is focused on or what the Rockets are watching.

after the preseason, he has the 2nd highest odds for ROY … because intelligent observers who put money on the game know what to look for and what to ignore (hint: ignore the things that are certain and focus on the areas where you have doubts … like getting inside the line, distributing well, getting off the shot, defending competently - all of which he did well.)

I think Sheppard also benefitted from the Class not having flat out ballers - sure fire stars and All Stars.

That is why I think most future stars will come in the next 2 years and Draft Classes.

Fully agree. I don’t think he is generational or a guaranteed star. But to say he struggled this preseason because he missed a few 3-pointers and take some “I told you so” victory lap, as that guy did, is absurd.

I would be all for starting the season in September.

Haha yep but I can understand why people are getting high on the Preseason.

Too much time away from real competition.

You do know that last season Jabari shot above the league average for the PF position by more than half a percentage point?
