I think that + - is the most worthless stat there is in a box score. It doesn't necessarily reflect that player's impact or contribution to team scoring when they are on the court.

A perfect example was Cam tonight. Everybody saw how Cam played tonight, yet his + - was higher than all our starters except Fred.

Yeah, that someone could be saved by all the others in the lineup.....

In a single game box score, +/- is a poor stat, but across games it's much more useful.

+/- across 4 games actually accurately reflected how Cam played this pre-season. If we look at players on this squad that have played at least 2 pre-season games, only 2 players have a negative +/-, Cam Whitmore and Aaron Holiday.

If we filter this further and look at only players that played meaningful minutes (at least 10 minutes per game), Cam is the only player on the list with a negative +/-.

Of course, the stat is not without limits. Sengun has been the best player but he has the lowest +/- among starters, but Cam having a negative +/- despite the team being 3-1, and whilst playing nearly 20 minutes a game, is quite telling. This stat is made worse by the fact that the team has the 3rd highest net rating in the pre-season so far, so it should be difficult to have a negative +/- when you play so many minutes, and when the team is winning by a considerable amount on average across 4 games.

Advanced stats are supposed to inform the eye test, not totally supplant it.

Single game +/- with no context is a worthless stat, but becomes useful in a large sample.

I concur with the guy who said +/- is a worthless stat. It totally lacks context. Like who was the player playing with? Who were they playing against? its just worthless.

Great game from everyone, except maybe Cam. We shouldn’t write him off just yet since he’s the second most explosive scorer on the team. I really think we’ll need him as we head into the playoffs. Ime is going to turn him into a beast. Let’s keep believing in this.

Jalen left his superstar mark tonight.

His 3pt shooting is 3/24 in past 7 games... Every game his defender is DPOY defender?

Wish he and Adams would have played against OKC so that their +/- would make more sense. Thanks for sharing though.

Sengun is the worst though as usual.

Yeah I jsut watched the second half of the game and that garbage time was te first time I seen Cam with that type of energy in a Rockets game. . Disappointing to see but he is just 20 years old.

I was already down on Jabari. I’d see what’s out there in the markets at of for Cam and Jabari. One thing I notice listening to opponents broadcat(sorry Imim a bit big a fan of Ryan) is that they seem to love Jabari. I hear some outlandish opinions about Jabari from the opps broadcaster.

I’d trade them both for a clear upgrade at pf.

RS might be our first rookie in some time to get through the preseason uninjured and securely in the rotation. He's earned Udoka's trust, and the coaches are not trying to put a lot of burdens/expectations on him. That's fine with me because it's a long season.

I wonder how many more highlight-filled games it will take before Amen secures the early votes for the most improved player. Few NBA athletes can stay in front of him when he has the ball on a semi-fast break. Seeing how much confidence he's gaining in attacking the basket is encouraging.

That Eason, Thompson, and Sengun frontcourt is a joy to watch. With three A+ offensive rebounders on the court, good luck keeping them off the glass. There was a time when RS and FVV were out there with them. I like that group, but the coaches should figure out how to get RS to peel off a screen or two. Having him standing on the wing or in the corner for spacing doesn't make much sense. But against the Spurs without their frontline guys in the preseason, who cares?

Cam must realize he's fallen down the depth chart. He's now firmly in the third string/ Reggie Bullock minutes. His personal challenge is to be a good teammate and keep grinding rather than being down on himself.

Do you really think Reed Sheppard cannot shoot 3-pointers based on a few rookie preseason games?

Great preseason. I saw players working on their weaknesses and performing at high levels while doing so. Hyped for opening night. The depth and chemistry of this team is going to be what catapults us into the playoffs.
