Same here, I thought Phoenix was great and all but Phillips just straight up copied 70s era Scorsese and used a DC character in the lead which bore very little relation to the source......
I watched it on my laptop thankfully instead of spending money on it thinking it couldn't be that bad....oh was I wrong Spoiler: spoilers -there was a scene at the end where harley is singing and joker goes "stop singing and just talk to me" which is what my exact thought was the whole movie -the budget was 200M; was this a laundering scheme because that was not worth 200M at all -the whole movie was either in a courtroom and a jail cell...what? -so the joker was literally raped out of arthur? -you couldn't take the movie seriously at all; everytime I was supposed to feel something or something important happens, it turns into a musical. WTF? -the ending was beyond awful; I have so many questions
What, what an endorsement. I may have to watch this in the same way I used to have to watch the Texans. Will the long-snapper hike the ball over the punter's head? That kind of watch.
Don't get me wrong, what they're got going now is definitely more fun, but I kinda miss the Texans comedy hatewatching.
So it looks like the movie is set to lose somewhere between 150 and 250 million dollars. Perhaps this one would have been better with more studio interference....
I read an article that said Phillips didn't want to make the sequel but was forced to, so he purposely made it bad to say FU to the studio. I have a hard time believing that a studio would allow that, or Phillips would actually think he could do it. It just doesn't add up when something costs $200 million........looks like a real mixed bag of reviews so I will wait until it shows up on TBS one night
My son says Joker 2 is a flaming disaster while his wife loved it. Seems like most people agree with my son. I look forward to Oct 29.
I could see it, he was forced into it so he made s film that was a middle finger to the studio and to the fans with a ridiculous budget spent largely on the payroll of the cast and himself. The guy would be my new hero if true and it was all a big troll job.
Reminds me of the conspiracy theory that Wachowski made Matrix 4 bad on purpose. Truth is probably in the middle where the director's artiste side goes full Zack Snyder and doesn't care whether audiences love/hate it. With Lana, she made it passion piece about her own struggles than an insipid franchise gateway for even more sequels.
