I really don’t see how anyone can disagree with this assessment. Even the most ardent Jalen fans have to know it in their heart of hearts. Make it so, Jalen.
It's not really absurd unfortunately. It's like the Summer League right? Don't jump to any conclusions from Summer League games is what they say. Which is true....if you're a rookie. If you're Johnny Davis or someone else who had a terrible rookie year, then it's different. You need to look good in these games, like Jabari and Tari did last year. They showed they were too good for it (as did Jalen Williams). You know who didn't look too good for Summer League? James Wiseman. Lets use Jalen Williams as an example. Through two "meaningless" pre-season games, he is 13/25 from the field for 50%+. He is 6/10 from 3. Shai in his lone game was 5/7 from the field. The issue with Jalen is that he has almost nothing to show for his 3 years or pro-ball so far outside of a little stretch in March. If he goes 7/11 next game and 8/9 from the stripe I probably won't care. Because it's always the same with Jalen. One good game. One bad. Two good games. Four bad ones. And so on.
It is absurd tho. Full stop. All of that other stuff is well and good and yeah, obviously, Jalen needs to be consistent etc. Not disputing that. But quoting his shooting percentage from 2 preseason games as evidence that he can’t or won’t succeed early in the season is absurd nonsense.
Dude you just made this up. Regardless of how a person played before, a preseason game is a preseason game. Whether they were **** and became good. Whether they were good and became ****. Whether they were good and stayed good. Where there were **** and stayed ****. It is still exactly the weight of a preseason game. At this point you're literally manufacturing arbitrary things to dump on Jalen Green. You literally made this up, no one has ever believed or will ever believe this yet you're digging your heels in. No one's buying it.
No one is judging after 2 games, all of this is about his 3+ years as a Rocket. He isn't good enough for the contract he wants. DD
He's played like a bench player.... so do you think he's willing to accept a bench role with a bench player contact?
I would go as high as 4/80 with a player option. He hasn't played to that level but i still think there's a chance
I wouldn't want to be stuck with him for that long, and DEFINITELY no player option for bad players. Unless he shows something this season, 3/45 with the 3rd season being a team option would be the most I'd want the Rockets to consider.
Uhhh...what did I make up? That pre-season games can be used as indicators of performance? Or the stats?
I don't get that vibe. Even jabari might be thinking he is headed for a max contract. I am not sure if they understand that the draft is long gone and your draft position is irrelevant, they need a reality check.
That it matters more for Green because Green was not efficient the past few seasons. You literally made that up out of thin air. No basis in reality whatsoever.
20 per is reasonable, and I would do if I was Stone. But sadly I don't think their camp would agree, even if it's actually fair value.
Ya, it's a pure potential play. He's not worth 20 mil right now but there's a chance he could end up being worth more, so i would probably risk it.
I would argue every second on the court, including preseason, matters more for guys in the last year of their contract who have largely been failures. He's got maybe 3 months left to prove to the team he's worth keeping and that the 3 year sample of failure isn't the real him...
That would certainly change the narrative, the assumption is he wants the max, if he wants 20m a year, by all means sign him up. DD
I don't think he is looking to give a discount when people with near his stats are getting max contracts. Whether they deserve it or not. The issue isn't really that it is that in Houston we have 7 guys we have to make a decision on - and we can only pick 3 or 4......at this point if you are a GOOD but not GREAT player, and won't take a GOOD contract, you will be traded.
