Maldy was never a good defensive catcher with the Astros. That was just a Dusty thing. Maldy was just his guy
Maldy was tied for first in the AL in 2022 with 16 caught stealings as a catcher. So now you are a liar.
You wanted Dusty out (AFTER WINNING A WS) so Diaz and Chas would start and we were swept. You have proven to be an idiot.
Don’t bother. It’s useless. There are just some dipshits on here that have always believed the Maldy mystique. They never consider the numbers and just try to act like they saw something in Maldy that other fans couldn’t. Makes them feel smart. It’s all bullshit, they were fooled and they hate it. Maldy was Dusty’s guy. He was a below average catcher but Dusty loved him. Diaz is a much better catcher and hitter than Maldy ever was for us.
When i see rvo pumping up maldy, who without a doubt was the worst player in the league, i wonder if there are wizards fans pumping up jordan poole, or cavs fans pumping up Anthony Bennett back in the day
Better decent young catcher and fantastic 1B than great catcher and below league average 1B. I would expect at least some improvement for Diaz not having to prepare for lineups and work as much with pitchers. No guarantee, but a logical assumption. If you can get a .270 hitting .750 OPS catcher under club control for 6 years that's a win no matter what. Caratini is either gone to a bigger contract next year or gone for not performing well enough. Being able to spend that money on a tucker or Framber replacement makes sense.
Yeah you’re not winning me over. No need to downgrade the catcher position when 1B is a much easier position to fill.
Best case would be trading him for 3 top prospects, one in the top 20-30 range Then use that money to sign a guy like Santander, who likely gets around 5 years at 20 million per. He isn’t the overall player that Tuck is obviously, but he wouldn’t cost nearly as much either. The run production you lose with Tucker is replaced and you have strengthened your system. It’s likely that you could get 3 prospects for Tuck that become 3 of your top 6, if one of those can contribute at 1B/3B/LF or his year, in addition to Santander, you are a better team as well as a deeper organization
The year is 2048, the Astros have won multiple World Series titles, and clutch fans is still fighting over maldy and dusty.
I'm not trying to win you over. I'm just letting you know how it is. They don't plan for Yainar to be the catcher for 12 years. Caratini is likely gone in a year. You can plan now or scramble later....
