    "My Brain Is Literally Hurting": People Are Rolling Their Eyes At A Re-Surfaced Clip Where Trump Says...

    Rising Sea Levels Will Allow More "Seafront Property"...

    As Florida residents are still reeling after Hurricane Milton ravaged through the state, leaving millions without power, at least 14 dead, and catastrophic flooding, a clip of Donald Trump repeating his questionable beliefs about climate change is going viral.

    Back in September, while speaking about the threat of nuclear war, he dismissed the threat of climate change to a crowd of supporters in Flint, MI, saying, "When I hear these people talking about the threat of global warming, that's the global warming you have to worry about. Not that the oceans gonna rise in 400 years an eighth of an inch."

    He continued, "And you'll have more seafront property, right? If that happened." The crowd roared to a cheer. "I said, isn't that a good thing? If I have a bit more property, I have a little bit more ocean."

    In a viral stitched clip, MSNBC commentator Chris Hayes urged viewers to consider what Trump is saying. "Every time we play this clip, we just got to stop for one second," Hayes said. "Think about that for — give it 10 seconds of your brainpower."

    They are very motivated. It could very well be the case that after this election, pollsters realized they weren't able to reach these young women.

    She Voted for Trump. Then She Had Two Terrifying Miscarriages in Texas. - The Barbed Wire

    “This guy is not a politician! He’s very blunt and upfront about what he’s speaking and what he’s believing in, like maybe that is what we need,” Victoria recalled thinking at the time.

    That year, on Election Day, she voted for Trump.

    Six years later — after Trump appointed three Supreme Court justices who each voted to overturn Roe v. Wade — my sister sat hemorrhaging for hours in the emergency waiting room in the conservative small town of Waxahachie.

    “I remember just being in there and seeing these ambulances,” Victoria said. Our mother offered to stay at the ER with my sister. But Victoria wanted her to take her son trick-or-treating. “The only thing I cared about was just making sure Elias got his candy.”

    She was nearly nine weeks pregnant. The life that was supposed to be growing inside her felt like it was flowing out in streams of blood. It was filling the thick pads she was wearing, and she feared any moment it would seep onto the glossy plastic blue chairs at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center.

    “I’m bleeding uncontrollably, I can’t stop it, and no one can help me because everyone’s afraid of what will happen.” At least, that’s how it felt during those hours in the waiting room.

    ...

    She remembered another long list of questions, another interrogation as if she were a criminal. As if she had done something wrong. But she hadn’t. She was just a mother having to grieve another wanted pregnancy, and the state was punishing her for it.

    ...

    “That is the sole reason that I’m voting for her,” Victoria said. “I’m 30 years old going through this.” To not be able to choose for herself, to have to run “around all over the city” for help, seemed ridiculous, and unimaginable for a teenager with less experience and resources. And clearly, considering Trump takes credit for the overturn of Roe v. Wade, this is his fault. She said, “This isn’t 1864.”

    In 2016, Victoria said, “I don’t feel like I actually did any research.”

    “I know you’re not supposed to have regrets, but I do,” she continued. “It was my fault because I also helped put Trump in the office, and now look what’s happened.”

    Now, in a change that shocked even our mother, Victoria is asking family, friends, and coworkers if they’re registered to vote.

    This goes again why I am cautiously optimistic. We saw this in 2022 and a few other special elections where the anti Rightwing vote was actually much stronger than most polls had it.

    It is possible that there is a hidden Trump vote and my understanding is several polls have adjusted their figures for that based upon what happened in 2016 but it is very possible there is a hidden Harris (anti-Trump) vote based on the issue of abortion.

    Honest question. Maybe it's stupid, but I'll ask it...

    How much do the national polls matter? We already know that Harris likely wins the popular vote. What matter are the swing states. If you're in New York, California, or Texas, your vote largely doesn't matter. Why are we concentrating on those types of polls?

    Not calling out the poster above, just wondering in general...

    National poll gives the losers the opportunity to whinge about the EC and how unfair elections are.

    Additionally, it can be used as a bar against the previous two elections. Otherwise, it means absolutely nothing.

    A non-biases pollster has Harris leading Trump in a +4 R Congressional district, Scott Perry's district. Fire breathing MAGA Perry is also in deep trouble.

    As of 11 Oct 2024,

    Abortion has emerged as the most important issue in the November election for women under 30, according to a survey by KFF --

    Nearly four in 10 women under 30 surveyed in September and early October told pollsters that abortion is the most important issue to their vote.
    Just 20% named abortion as their top issue when KFF conducted a similar survey in late May and early June.

    The new survey found other shifts among women voters that stand to benefit Harris, including an increase of 24 percentage points in the number of women who said
    they were satisfied with their choice of candidates and a 19-point increase in the number who said they were more motivated to vote than in previous presidential elections.

    The changes suggest a significant setback among women in just a few months for former President Donald Trump.

    Just pure bias. None of us know, absent a cerebro type device, if there's a hidden voting factor.

    We don't know if anyone is properly measuring:
    * if polls are properly catching likely Latino voters or how much they prefer Trump
    * how many motivated women are being missed in polling
    * how many former Trump voters are sick of it and stay home
    * the effect of a record # of registered GOP officials and former colleagues of GOP nominee coming out against him
    * the effect of get-out-the-vote efforts in swing states
    * etc
    * etc
    * etc

    Increasing number of posters and Americans just post and speak their wishes as if facts. Sigh. (I know you know this.)

    Good question.

    National sentiment can influence local sentiment, as it impacts culture, media, and people. I think that’s why it matters to the campaigns.

    It also matters the same way as the popular vote. Even if you win the Electoral Vote, you want to know what voting Americans as a whole think. It doesn’t feel quite right to win the Electoral College but lose the popular vote. You know you won by the rules, but you haven’t really won over the nation. You have work to do if you are a responsive President of the United States who acts for all Americans.

    By "responsive", I mean doing what gains the support of more Americans in constructive and positive ways, not trying to win by dividing, suppressing, or deceiving Americans. People can't trust politicians and hate politics because they often do the latter.

    I have no doubt that is the biggest issue for young women. it's not hidden, however.
