Yeah I'm with you on this. IMO they should put a hard limit on his 3's. 4-5 is plenty and he can be league average efficiency at that volume. Morant has been living on 3-4 attempts on below average efficiency. Also midrange only from the FT line area. Limited choice is the best motivator sometimes. A drive or an open 3 or kick out to anyone. That should be 90% of his diet.
Of course the coach will want to get the young player's confidence, get an easy shot for them etc. But Jalen and Sengun are in their 4th year, talking about max contracts. They shouldn't need that treatment anymore. They need to be played to their strengths and that's a natural part of the game, but trying to get them easy layups etc. is not for them.
That would be an interesting experiment, whether limited choice would increase player's shot selection.
There are no SOF's at this point big guy. He is our best player. Right? Or am I wrong there? So why do you feel the need to go out of your way to try an denigrate his "screen setting" in a feeble attempt to try and bring him down to Jalen's level. They aren't close right now. There aren't even really Jaters in here dude, we want him to "figure it out" just like you. The difference between us is that you and a few others don't think that there's anything to figure out. That everything else around Jalen is the issue. When the opposite is true. He still can't make the right passes on offense. He still telegraphs his intentions. He still can't shoot. The Thunder knew to overload him the minute he hit two shots and he proceeded to dribble off his knee. This is what's expected. Like....understand that. He's a below average shooting guard in the NBA right now and not a starting caliber one either. Give Jordan Poole or Clarkson enough shots and they'll also average 22 PPG. That isn't hard. Yesterday Jalen couldn't run the offense. He straight up can't run the offense. He shouldn't really be on ball anymore. That should be either FVV/Amen or Reed. His game is eerily similar to Dillon Brooks. If he doesn't have a 3 available he's going to put the ball on the deck and dribble himself into trouble. Dillon at least has size to bump his man off, Jalen has neither the size nor the craft to finish these shots. Put simply: he needs to play off of Sengun and one of the real ball handlers and he needs to make his damn shots. Period. Or he can just ride the pine. We're not going to be playing the Wizards and Pistons in the post season where he can look good. He had one good game against the Jazz and one bad game against the Thunder. I posted earlier today the games that I'm going to judge him by. BTW this isn't a "pro Jalen thread" dude. It's a Jalen thread. And people can write good things and bad things about him. So let's see what he does on Tuesday. He isn't the only one either. There are other players on the team that haven't really improved where they should have. I'm keeping an open mind one way or another. If he plays good, I'll be in here saying so (like I did when he did). If he plays bad, I'll be in here saying so. Like I'm doing right now. At least you're in here. I'll give you that. Didn't tuck tail and run the minute he had a shitty game.
He looks exactly the same. If we had shipped him off-season i would have been far more excited for the upcoming season. He’ll mess everything up again
There are no "SOF". If you are a Rockets fan, you should support their franchise player, by default. There wasn't such a thing as a "Hakeem Only Fan" back in the day either. Being a Rockets fan, you were a Hakeem fan.
To be honest, it's not necessary Jalen's problem. Rockets try to be maintain their cap flexible which create the hierachy problem. Just hand Sengun the max already, and F the cap space. If you were Jalen, you still had a slim chance to be the guy and of course you did whatever you could to obtain that status, even if it hurt the team. Jalen was very willing to pass the ball to everyone except Sengun in the first two preseason games was a testament that he was trying to compete to become the guy, which wasn't wrong in any sense. He worked hard on his shooting form in the summer and you could see that. The problem is that Sengun improves so much more and the gap between him and Sengun is getting wider and wider. Jamal Murray was picked at #7 where Jokic was picked 41st. There's no problem the latter pick performs better than the earlier pick and both players can coexist, but as an organization the Rockets need to be clear about the hierachy. We should be competing for the playin or playoff this year, not throwing out games to see how our young players can do. No teams are treating us like a walkover like in the Silas era.
I think that is coming, I doubt they give Alpe and Green the same bag, one has to be bigger than the other, in Green's case there is an even bigger unknown. Hierarchy is important among young players, to solidify the power balance and avoid players barking at each other for no reason. Like Jabari who has proven nothing in the league, always trying to bark at Sengün.
Jalen doesn't fit in and is not a leader, he is a scorer, and tertiary creator - he will never be a superstar player, it is not in him, his Bball IQ is too low. IMHO, his days as a Rocket are numbered. Jabari is probably never going to be much special either.....neither will get the max or deserve it, IMHO. DD
VC likes to lump everybody who criticizes Jalen as "Jater" and loves to gloat at them whenever Jalen plays well. He blames Sengun and his fans as one primary reason for "hating" Jalen. Notice he never gloats at Sengun haters when Sengun is playing well (or any other player's haters for that matter). The only haters he hates is Jaters (and KPJ haters before his downfall).
Saying hater really means you have nothing to refute the current discussion. It is a way for making yourself feel better and without dealing with uncomfortable subject matter. I would hazard that most of us here are ROX FANS first and foremost - and just want what is best for the team and it is OK to disagree with other fans about what that is or isn't..... DD
Funnier still is that there are various instances of him being outright racist. The guy for some reason has it in for Sengun (probably because he's taken the shine away from Jalen/KPj) and just resorts to name calling, xenophobic tirades and pivots every time someone corners him on something. He doesn't want to admit that Sengun is the best player on the team by a ****ing mile. Doesn't want to admit that Jalen is a below average shooting guard, streaky and inefficient. Some of the other JOFs (such a weird damn thing to be) at least admit that the kid just hasn't been good enough and needs to get better. They just get flustered at other people being way more out on him than they are and anyone who is is a "Jater" who isn't looking at the other things Jalen is doing outside of the inefficiency and turnovers. Like Jalen's game is some 5D chess **** where he's performing in another dimension and his very presence actually inspires Sengun/FVV to figure our offense out every possession. I forget which one said that Jalen was actually going to get even *more* touches this year which I can't for the life of me even comprehend. Just yesterday Jalen got touches as a primary only for Ime to call a timeout and force everyone to give it to our actual franchise cornerstone. Then wouldn't you know it we cut the lead down. Every time I hear them talk it reminds me of the scene in the 6th Sense where HJO says "they see what they want to see". He's played exactly one good quarter through two games. Who here is surprised by that? Raise your hands.
