You . Your hot take is to anoint Sheppard as our future star PG before he ever played an NBA game. The guy that watches the team in practice everyday started Amen as the PG in FVV’s absence. You are a troll that makes takes designed to denigrate anyone that doesn’t take your basketball knowledge as gospel. Maybe you don’t understand the concept of a comp. Magic is a good comp for Amen, because of the traits they share. Good passing, size, ability to play mulitple positions, superior transition skills, and Magic lacked an outside shot when he came into the league. It may be absurd to think Amen will equal Magic, but it is a really good comp.
Ah yes... it's a "hot take" to say that the pure PG the Rockets drafted #3 in the draft is the future starting PG..... rather than the 6'7 athlete without a real position because they aren't really a lead guard type and they can't shoot but did really well in the dunker spot as a SF last season.... the guy you call the next coming of Magic Johnson despite having nothing at all in common with Magic Johnson. He has a lot in common with Magic Johnson like I pointed out. You just have set your agenda, just like with Jalen and don’t have the ability to accept opposing viewpoints.
He's, at the very least, a good connective and transition passer. Those things are qualities of good point guards. However, he's struggled in the halfcourt, including last night. I wouldn't close the book on his point guard-ness just yet, but he has a lot to improve on. Reed does seem to be more well suited at this point. It sure is intriguing to think of a guy of Amen's size and defensive abilities at the point guard position though.
Completely put the defender in concrete here because of his shooting gravity. Also at 0:37 you can see Shai react to one of his shots by turning around and nodding to someone else like "I told you so".
Sure... they have a lot in common, except Magic was taller, less athletic, Magic could shoot a basketball, and was one of if not the greatest floor generals in the history of the sport...... They were/are very good defensive players, so that's the one thing they have in common.
he looks like a freshmen playing with varsity but even that he's making good plays and has a skillset no one besides Fred has on the team. I'm excited to see him grow and I think next year he's going to come out looking a veteran.
RS is unselfish and looking for the best shot/ play on every possession rather than his own game. Holiday and FVV (to a lesser extent) are thinking, "My shot is the best-looking alternative on this play." RS is also a strong enough shooter that he doesn't have to miss five times to "get himself going."
Again, I just want to emphasize that people will need to be patient with Reed. Here are four hall of fame players I would ALL take over someone like Isaiah Rider or Monta Ellis or Tyreke Evans...or Jalen Green. These are the average stats not from their first year, but from their first three seasons, respectively. And these are the stats of Isaiah Rider, Monta Ellis, Tyreke Evans, Jalen Green, from their first three seasons, respectively. At first sight, you might be misled to think that the four players at the bottom are "more valuable", are "max players", have "higher star potential" than the four players at the top. Reed's counting stats will not outshine Jalen's especially if you look at the points column only. But just from watching a few games of his, you can see he understands the game much better, he is less selfish, he is a better shooter, better passer, better defender, better rebounder. Reed Sheppard will be in the category of players you see at the top in this post. And if the Rockets are smart, they will build around Alpi, Reed, Amen...and certainly keep Tari as the perfect role player. I hope neither the Rockets nor the intelligent fans will get blinded by some scoring outbursts of other players, or by Reed not producing super high-scoring games in the first 2-3 years, or ever. If Reed could produce numbers this year or next year like Mark Price - that would be an excellent outcome.
PG is one of the most difficult position to master. Reed has all the needed skills and the mindset to be a good one. He just needs time to learn to put it all together.

I am convinced more than ever he is our PG of the future and will likely be part of our big three with Alpi and the better of Jalen and Amen (I think it will be Amen). Alpi, Amen, and Reed would be the most unselfish big three ever.
I'll never understand why Ime likes to play 2 midgets on the backcourt.. last year it was FVV + Holiday, now there's Reed. It's actually so counter intuitive when you think about Ime's defense first mentality.
I feel like only Alpy has the right blend of knowing when to get his and when to pass. Reed and Amen (and Jabari) are still too passive and don't take shots they should. FVV shoots shots he shouldnt still.
There's not a lot of options really... if "defense first" was really the primary mentality, neither Jalen or Cam would ever step foot on the court... but you have to play someone at SG
Thats quite a cherry picking exercise - it feels a bit like there is some unconscious racial bias going on there but sure I'll co-sign "I would rather a group of hall of famers than a group of non hall of famers"
