on the heels of Trump / JD Vance's lies about immigrants in Springfield, Oh, these two despicable Repugs are at it again, having delivered a barrage of lies and distortions about the federal response to Hurricane Helene Monday: Trump falsely claims Biden hasn’t answered calls from Georgia’s governor even before Trump had made that lies on Mon , Ga Gov Kemp Kemp, had already told reporters that he had spoken with Biden the day prior — and that it was Kemp who had initially missed a call from Biden, not the other way around. Monday: Trump cites baseless ‘reports’ about anti-Republican bias in the North Carolina response reminiscent of Trump claiming that his experts are telling him that Obama was not born in the US Thursday: Trump falsely claims the Biden-Harris response had received ‘universally’ negative reviews Though the Biden administration’s response had certainly received criticism, it had also been praised by various state and local leaders — including the Republican governors of some of the affected states and the Democratic governor of North Carolina, plus local leaders including the Democratic mayor of the hard-hit North Carolina city of Asheville. Republican South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster said at a Tuesday press conference that federal assistance had “been superb,” noting that Biden and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg had both called and told him to let them know whatever the state needed. McMaster also said FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell had called. Thursday: Trump falsely claims Harris spent ‘all her FEMA money’ on housing illegal migrants there is zero basis for claiming that FEMA disaster assistance money was stolen — by anyone, let alone Harris personally — for the housing of migrants. Congress appropriated $650 million in the 2024 fiscal year to fund a program that helps state and local governments house migrants — and instructed US Customs and Border Protection to transfer that $650 million to FEMA to administer the program. Friday: Trump falsely claims $1 billion was ‘stolen’ from FEMA for migrants and has gone ‘missing’ Saturday: Trump falsely claims the federal government is only giving $750 to people who lost their homes Trump’s claim is wrong. earlier in the week, FEMA had explained on social media and on a web page it created to combat misinformation about the response, $750 is merely the immediate, upfront aid survivors can get to cover basic, pressing needs like food, water, baby formula and emergency supplies. Survivors are also eligible to apply for additional forms of assistance, such as to pay for temporary housing and home repairs, that can be worth thousands of dollars; the current maximum amount for home repair assistance, for example, is $42,500. Saturday: Trump falsely claims there are ‘no helicopters, no rescue’ in North Carolina The North Carolina National Guard announced Thursday that its own air assets had “completed 146 flight missions, resulting in the rescue of 538 people and 150 pets.” The Washington Post reported Friday:
NC GOP awmaker on Helene conspiracy theories / lies: ‘PLEASE help stop this junk’ North Carolina state Sen. Kevin Corbin (R) denounced what he described as “conspiracy theory junk” circulating about flooding in western North Carolina from Hurricane Helene, referring to allegations about the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) stealing money from donations, among several others. “PLEASE help stop this junk. It is just a distraction to people trying to do their job. Folks, this is a catastrophic event of which this country has never known,” Corbin wrote Thursday in post on Facebook. In an effort to curb misinformation surrounding Hurricane Helene, FEMA launched a “rumor response” page, where the agency asks the public to find and share information from trusted sources and to discourage others from sharing details from unverified ones. It also seeks to dispel rumors as the search for storm victims continues across multiple states and authorities contend with blocked roads and power outages.
Word on The Street is that Trump's campaign team are brain storing for the next set of FEMA lies to use for Cat 5 Milton.
I'm used to the lying. It's the lies that insult my intelligence that gets me mad. Are people really that dumb? (rhetorical question). Yes, people are that dumb. I see it here daily with all the BS twitter posts.
Its mind numbing the amount of people who fall for the lie's day after day but that's the maga playbook.........create chaos
"Stupid politics"; GOP strategist blasts Trump over lies about FEMA North Carolina senator calls conspiracy theories around Helene federal response a ‘distraction
Got you to view a thread and comment on it. You get your panties in a wad over the many duplicative threads of @tinman and @AroundTheWorld shrieking about culture wars stuff? No? Cool.
Actually, this is an important thread. This is the first time in recent U.S. history (and perhaps all of U.S. history) that I’m aware of where the party leader and the national leadership of an entire party have lied about a natural disaster, harming its victims for their own perceived political gain. It’s a shameful chapter in our nation’s history and deserves its own dedicated thread, even though we have discussed these lies in multiple threads here.
