Pubbies desperate to politicize a humanitarian crisis.

    Sunrise, sunset.

Imagine a world beyond a duopoly where maximizing human misery isn't rewarded at the ballot box.

I'm not going to criticize or mock ATW or any other republican who is taking their family out of harms way for this storm.

    It's election season.
All things are blown out of proportion.
If there is anyone in America that has not made up their mind who they are voting for I would be shocked.

Unless there is a super significant gaf by one of the nominees the cake is baked.

We decided to stay. Thank you for not being as hateful as some of these people.

ATW says he's riding it out. Those on the coast where the storm is forecasted to land need to evacuate. Given the short notice (no fault of the local government; this storm popped up quickly), those inland should actually stay put if an extended power outage is not a serious issue, allowing those on the coast to evacuate. I have family there, right in the path but a bit further inland, and they are staying put.

I just heard from a friend who said his relatives in St. Pete have decided to stay. I would NOT have done that.

Whatever you think is hateful I don't wish harm especially to other clutchfans.

I don't know your exact situation and as I said in the other thread there is a lot of uncertainty with natural disasters. All I can say is do what you think is best for your family's safety and don't take chances with this.

I think this depends on where inland. Most projections show that it's going to hit Orlando at Hurricane strength. Given all of FL is low lying and swampy while they might not get the storm surge several inches of rain in a short period could hit them.

If I lived there I would evacuate.

Hopefully they make it out. You need to do anything you can to convince them to go

I have family by marriage in Naples.
    They are staying.
But their house is built on a man made hill, and they say the house is built like Fort Knox.
He was VP of Lockheed Martin. I suspect the house is sturdy but you never know.

Polk City, 60 miles east of Tampa. They aren't in an evac zone.

Not knowing anything about their house or geography I can't really say particular. As an architect though I can tell you that our building codes and building standards are not designed to resist 150 MPH winds and especially storm surge. I've seen first hand what a lot of water can do to even reinforced concrete. It turns rebar into spaghetti.

You pretty much need to live in a bunker to expect to survive a CAT 5 storm with a 20 foot storm surge.

Then try and convince your friend to.

    Totally agree.
He is more worried about him yacht than his house. I do know the hill the house is on is elevated 10 feet. Don't know how high the natural elevation of Naples is.
One of his sons is in Jacksonville but they think that no safer.

It's never about the undecideds. Those days are long gone. It's about turnout now and forevermore.

Also, in a race where the margin could be in the 5 digits, no scandal or event is "minor".

I just want people to realize what set of incentives we have working here. It is electorally beneficial for Republicans to cause as much human suffering as possible. If Trump was in office and an earthquake hit California it would be the exact same situation in reverse. This is asinine.
