But be cognizant of who you donate to. Samaritan's Purse is my recommendation.

Certainly. I donated to the Red Cross but I understand why many would rather donate to other organizations. When things settle down I’m planning on finding a local organization in Asheville to donate to.

there are a lot of scams so be careful. This is why initially I feel better donating to established organizations.

Sorry. I mistyped. Temporary housing is taken care of now and does not include the 750 in immediate relief. The rebuilding comes later.

I am curious but have you dealt with a major natural disaster before?

The rebuilding is going to be months from now. We’re still in the rescue and emergency aid phase. Given the size and difficult terrain it will take a long time before sufficient resources can be brought in to rebuild.

First will need to be restoring infrastructure such as roads, power, water and etc.. That’s not easy as roads are washed out or buried in landslides, bridges are out and have to be rebuilt.

Only after the infrastructure is rebuilt then mass clearing and hauling out of debris can happen. Land will need to be regraded along with shored up as in a disaster like this there will a lot of shifts on slopes. After that then material and labor can be brought in to start reconstruction.

Recovery and rebuilding in a mountainous area like Western NC isn’t going to be easy or cheap. In 2015 I got to see how the area of the Sichuan earthquake recovered. That happened in mountainous area and rather than rebuild the most affected city they built a whole new city miles away and moved the survivors there

Oh poor dear, you didn’t know that withholding disaster relief has been a thing for a while now?

Don’t you remember that “George W Bush don’t care about black people after Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans?” See, now Biden is getting the whiteys back by withholding relief for Hurricane Helene.

    ————

Only because it is you do I feel a moral obligation to explain that this is a joke. Bush in fact did not hold back relief to black people in New Orleans after Katrina, and Biden hasn’t done that to MAGA after Helene.

Dummy, try to read history. Recovery and relief has taken time after every disaster like this.

It is one thing to be sympathetic to people who are suffering and want them to get relief as fast as possible. That is a good thing. It is another thing to then say Oooh, relief is being withheld because Biden or Bush or whoever is an evil piece of crap.

Mobilizing people to get emergency supplies and relief to people in need, especially in remote locations, takes time. And yes, even when that is being done on an expedited basis.

So let me get this straight.
The Vice President gets to take credit for all of the good things happening, stock market, jobs report and so on.

But she gets a pass on things not so good, because she is not the president.

    I'm confused.

I honestly don't give her too much credit for anything other than tie-breaking votes she cast in the Senate. That's all the Constitution allows for her to actually do. I just finished Veep for the first time so maybe the point of that show is on my mind.

It's all silly, right? But to the extent that one side says "everything is horrible -- worst ever in history, let me tell you -- and the other team is to blame," then any actual data that counters that narrative, including positive trend lines, helps the other candidate, even if she can't really take credit or blame for things either way.

I don't give her credit for the stock market nor do I give her much for the jobs report. As I noted though I don't blame her either.

What I will point out though is that Trump claimed several times that if Biden won in 2020 we would see a Great Depression. He's claiming the same thing about Harris now. I doubt that will be true either.
