Rocky I and II are very strong in the franchise. The character side and acting, cinematography is aces. Rocky III is my least favorite. Hulk Hogan calls Rocky a meatball over and over again lol. I assume that rocky IV would be everyone's favorite.
Rocky IV. That visceral feeling of seeing it in the theatre as a kid during the Cold War- it was amazing.
This is a high quality thread I loved Rocky III because I love the story line...getting beat and losing edge and having to gain it all back again. Can't begin to tell you how surprising it was seeing it the first time that Apollo came out to train him and find that edge again. Rocky Balboa was the most surprising to me. I thought it was a joke when I first heard about it...but man that story was done so well. And the speech he gives his son about being afraid and making excuses is just freaking fantastic. I think that was the deepest dive into the character of Rocky of any of the movies, honestly. I loved the first Creed movie too.
I agree with the sentiments there about IV. I treat it like an action summer blockbuster, it has everything. I just love parts 1 and 2 because of the human emotional pull in it. Paulie is nuts lolol
I can remember watching III in the theatre. Not sure about IV. Although I know I've probably watched it more times than I have any other movie.
Best movie is Rocky 1. Best villain is from Rocky 3. "My prediction? Pain..." Best training montage is from Rocky 4. "DRAAGOOOOOOO!!" Best chill scene is from Rocky 2: After enduring 20 minutes of mopey, depressed Rocky, Adrian finally wakes up from her coma. Adrian: "There's only one thing I need you to do for me..." Rocky: "Yeah? What's that?" Adrian: "Win!" Mickey: "WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR?"
Rocky is the best movie, Rocky IV is the one I've seen the most in my life (see @Xerobull post, it was a perfect time and place), Rocky Balboa and Creed were surprisingly really good. I know Rocky II is a very good movie, but I don't think I've re-watched it much (and not in the past 30 years) and thus cannot truthfully rank it. I honestly don't remember much about Rocky III either, other than MrT. Which movie had the robot? That earns it extra points.
Rocky 3 would’ve been a better movie if it was just the clubber lang story, the little screen time he had he was dynamite. Heck I would’ve love to see a Clubber Lang vs Ivan Drago movie Rocky IV, Paulie’s love interest lolol.
well said. i think i watched it only because it was on TV and i was bored. i had low expectations for that one and was blown away by how compelling and well written it was. a great ending for rockys story. dare i say, it might be the 3rd best movie in the franchise after 1 and 2. 3 and 4 are both highly watchable, but definitely too tied to the 80's era. there was a bit of cheesiness in those two films where 1 and 2 seemed more serious and gritty. this scene right here says so much about rocky the man... "yo apollo, its me rocky. can i ask you one question...did you give me your best" "yeah" "thank you" https://clip.cafe/rocky-ii-1979/could-answer-one-question/
Of course. More than I care to admit. And I saw the car he used in D.C. Cab when I was a kid at Universal Studios. I'm talking strictly acting. He took it to another level in Rocky III. The A Team was a lot of him arguing with Murdoch and ranting about how he pitied the fool. And firing off thousand of rounds of ammo without hitting anyone.
