The drawbacks of extending him are: 1) Injury risk. There is a slight chance that Sengun injures himself enough that he would no longer be worth the rookie extension max. 2) Cap flexibility next offseason. 3) Lose the ability to trade him at the deadline. The pros of extending him are: 1) He's happy 2) Rockets continue building their reputation as a place players want to be. 3) Can operate as an over the cap team and utilize extensions, keep players that would need to be cut for cap space, and make moves without trying to perserve cap space. I'm of the opinion that operating as an over the cap team without maintaining flexibility for cap space is likely more valuable than the cap space flexibility (many people disagree with this opinion). To me, I prefer trying to keeping Sengun happy and building reputation that Houston is a player friendly environment are more important than mitigating injury risk/ability to trade Sengun at the deadline. Many fans with short term outlook and not taking into account people are involved disagree, but almost every team extends a player of Sengun's value unless they can get a ton of space without cutting good players (I think FVV, Green, Adams, Landale, Green, etc. are significantly better than the players Philly let go when Philly didn't extend Maxey). Edit: On this statement: I'm of the opinion that operating as an over the cap team without mainting flexibility for cap space is likely more valuable than the cap space flexibility (many people disagree with this opinion). If I end up wrong, I'm probably going to be really wrong.
You also get a better developmental year when you extend because he is more focused and his head is free of injury risk which outweighs the injury risk in my opinion.
Same. Here is another example of how the hataz would blame Sengun for 'bad' defense. Reed off the ball movement appears to be too much for the defender to stay with him. The rules don't allow the defender to work against the p&R the way they should. Now the defender is trailing all the way and Alperen has to try to guard 2 spots at once. If Sengun contests, it's a flashy pass to the Aussie for dunk. If he stays with the Aussie, Reed gets the finger roll. In both situations, the idiots would say:" Need le rim protection s'il vous plait!! Vive le France. Wembbbbyyy" Me: "Hello pick and roll. Now do the same to them."
Don't usually look forward to the end of the weekend/Mondays but holy **** I can't wait until Monday. I need anticipation of seeing where Alpi and co are at in terms of offseason development and growth is killing me.
I could be wrong, but assuming you are talking about contract extension, not all really earns max deal(first 3-4 yrs in), but you are banking on them reaching star level game or its like Shaq/Jordan/Dream end rookie deal where you know they are real deal and still may drop the ball like Orlando did with Shaq and didn't lock him up to max deal Nobody in Green draft class ''deserved'' their crazy $$ deals they received, not even Barnes & he made all star game, but nothing of his game right now says 200+$ million contract But that's the market & Green is on point to bank on himself in contract yr Expect more March / last 23-games version of JG4, which may not be worth the super or whatever max, but definitely a keeper at SG
The person I was responding said extending Alpi now would hurt Jalen. I guess it could hurt his feelings but in no way should that affect the teams negotiations with Alpi , Jalen, nor any other player. IMHO, Jalen has not earned a max extension yet. If he were to play like he did in March all season he is 100% a max player. His future is in his hands all he has to do is be the good version of Jalen consistently. As for the others in his draft class, Alpi is the only one who deserves a max up to this point. I sincerely hope they do not let other teams mistakes with undeserved extensions affect their negotiations with Jalen if he were to underperform. TBH, I think Jalen's contract will be decided in restricted free agency. If he underperforms, the only way he gets a max is on another team willing to take a reach that the Rockets do not foolishly match. We have two other players who may be max worthy in Amen and Sheppard so the team cannot afford to screw up and give Jalen a max unless he 100% earns it by playing to his max potential consistently.
He just does not understand Feigen English........Feigen asks in his own way A toy collection of Centers.
