It is. It's a bit of theatrics. It's also me being careful, as my field is somewhat niche, and this company has been known to mess with people after they leave. A lot of what goes into this decision is just getting out from under their thumb, so I'm being cautious so as to execute that in the best way possible. Probably being too cautious tbh.
I understand the urge a little bit, I've been in a similar situation. For me, I'd been giving blood and sweat to the company for however many years, and it felt insulting that they couldn't even half-ass a minimal pro forma response just to check a box. Not even, "sorry, we cant give you any more, but we will really miss you." It felt like they were saying, "don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out, you won't be missed". Everybody wants to feel valued.
