This is Jalen Green's bad influence as a locker room cancer. Everyone on the team now wants to be fashionistas instead of hoopers.

Dang! I just missed Sengun at Magic Kingdom. He’s at Texans game today, but just posted DW pics (MK and wherever HPotter stuff is). I was there Friday.

    Stats hurt you don’t they?
Yes, their defensive rating went to the bottom half of the league.
Don’t know how else to tell you that. You’re just wrong

Don't forget stats are fake, numbers are wrong, math is idiotic. You're trying to say that just because the rockets defensive rating that the defense got worse? RIDICULOUS

That statement is actually quite ridiculous :D the defensive rating got worse because the defense got worse, not the other way around.

While true, the Rockets offense was 5th with Sengun hurt. The Rockets made choices that lead to the bad defense while Sengun was hurt, and lead to great offense. One should not conclude that Sengun was great defensively because the Rockets defense suffered without him, just as one should not conclude Sengun is offensively inept because the offense was great without him.

I don't think comparing the Rockets defense with Sengun versus the Rockets defense without a center is a fair comparison. I don't think comparing the Rockets offense with Sengun versus the Rockets offense without a center is a fair comparison. Mostly, the average offense and defensive stats were significantly skewed by 12-15 minutes of a gimmickly starting lineup while Sengun was hurt. The Rockets defense played like a Top 5 defense when they played a center while Sengun was hurt.

You think he would rather take less now than get a max next offseason? If he took a discount i guess it would be worth signing him now but a max is a non starter (obviously)

I'm still skeptical that the Rockets will use cap space next offseason. FVV getting TO turned down and then extending on a longer contract with lower AAV seems like it might be the best move with cap space. I just fear a Carlos Boozer or Brook Lopez like result if the TO is declined.

In other words, I think the likeliest thing to happpen is Sengun takes the max next offseason and the Rockets get no benefit out of pissing Sengun off. Hope I'm wrong and the waiting actually pans out into something.

Him leaving next offseason is impossible, he doesn’t have a TO. An RFA can only leave if the team with his rights renounces him, meaning he’s so bad the rockets don’t want him.

I was refering to FVV in regards to a TO as they will likely need to decline his TO to get under the cap a substantial amount (or let Jalen Green walk for nothing). Even if there is a verbal agreement between FVV and the Rockets, Boozer and more recently Lopez backed out of them.

On Sengun, he could sign qualifying offer that would let the Rockets only have his rights for this season and next. I'm not sure if a big RFA has done this yet, but it is going to hurt some team when it does.

I just don't see much benefit in pissing off a player that you want a long term relationship with unless you plan to do a Maxey like deal of using the cap space to substantially improve the roster. I think the Rockets would likely cut/ not sign more talent than they could bring in with cap space (at least in the short term, though having FVV extended would help long term).

Oh i misunderstood, my bad. Not a single RFA has ever done this, the only type of player who could possibly entertain it would be a true generational mvp level guy, like a Doncic. Sengun is not close to that, there's no chance in hell he's turning down an extra 200 mil and risking losing it. It's also not ONLY about cap space for FA, it allows a lot more possibilities for trades and stuff as well. There's no reason to lose the flexibility when you are gaining literally nothing.

Regarding trades, having matching salaries/valuable contracts makes trades easy. I think the Rockets will be able to make more trades staying above cap than if they go under without having to cut players.

Operating like wanting to have cap space has an opportunity cost. The Rockets didn't use the MLE or Bi-Annual exception this year. They could still use them, but they have already cost themselves opportunities of getting players that could be flipped at the deadline. Getting cap space will cost the Rockets another MLE next season.

And..though unlikely, Sengun having the option of a QO is a risk as no chance in hell is still greater than 0.

There are costs of going for cap space even without taking player happiness into account.

Jock Landale is a really good interview. So is Steven Adams.
