The story of Canada is sad.

They had the chance to have
    • British Culture
    • American Technology, and
    • French Cuisine
    but ended up with,
    • American Culture
    • French Technology, and
    • British Cuisine

Go tell Quebec or BC or Nova Scotia, or etc... that

It is a good joke though.

What's the one about British/French/Italians in hell?

…but some of the best Asian food in the world. So have to quarrel with the food comment.

I was reading the post you quoted and thinking to myself "wonder if anybody is going to mention poutine?" and sure enough ... I've never had it, but it sounds so disgusting, it may be good. That's usually how it works.

The best chefs in Hong Kong all went to Vancouver and Toronto in the '90s.

It's exactly what it looks like from outside: Salty, greasy junk food. Still, I crave it from time to time. Nothing special but a pretty good bang for the buck most of the time.

Just like a lot of Sichuan chefs who cook spicy left.

Most people aren't eating in fancy restaurants with chefs who move stuff around on your plate so the arrangement meets some French standard. Most people are eating in places where nobody cares about the colors on the plate. The average UK plate of food is bad. The best thing you can get is curry.

In rankings by TasteAtlas, English cuisine came in 39th behind places like Lithuania, Malaysia, Georgia, and Iran. The Top 10 were Italy, Japanese, Greek, Portuguese, Chinese, Indonesian, Mexican, French, Spanish, and Peruvian. The US came in at 16. The UK doesn't make it into the Top 10 at CNN. Or the Top 25 at Far and Wide. Or Delish Knowledge. Or any other poll or ranking you can find. UK food is objectively bad.

They had a world empire and every cuisine and spice was available to them. The sun never set on the British Empire. Nope, they said, don't want any of that. Toad in a Hole, Spotted Dick, and Jellied Eels are just fine and you can certainly keep those spices away.

Since this is a Steven Adams thread, I'll also say Australian cuisine is not much better.

i’m a foodie who’s been to 70+ countries including extended time in london. there are many many exceptional restaurants there. but typical british fare itself is lackluster. bland flavorless often with processed ingredients. they have to import much of their produce.

The food in America is incredible but the people trashing food in the UK - not necessarily British cuisine - have no idea what they're talking about from a culinary perspective.

London has a case for the food capital of the world especially since Paris is declining rapidly. If you wanted to be an elite chef, London is a top 3 city to put on your resume. As much as I hate that country, you can't diss the food.
