He was initially charged with two firearm offenses. The letter is part of a court filing, used as evidence to support an attempted murder charge and to argue against his release on bail, which the judge agreed with. I'm not sure if there's a process to keep the letter private while still allowing the judge to make this decision (perhaps someone with legal knowledge can comment on that).

OVERALL, his message and tone appeals to moderates, which is a reason why Trump is doing better among this group. Cherry picking then taking out of contrast one statement to try saying he doesn't isn't being honest. Go watch his full length interviews or pressers for a better idea.

The moderates that would storm the capital and believe the 2020 election was stolen? The kind of moderates that believe Argentinian gangs are taking over towns in Colorado? The kinds of moderates that march with tiki torches chanting antisemitic Neo-nazi slogans? The kinds of moderates that want to deny women the rights they used to hold and interfere with their healthcare?

Are those the moderates that you're talking about?

I think the cultural vibes of republicans appeals more to some moderates. The last thing anybody wants to be is a p***y who doesn’t love freedom.

This has been a failure for the Dems in the great culture wars. The narratives and vibez

Trumps particular message and tone applying to moderates seems wild at this point though. Every time that dude talks it’s hellfire and brimstone. Rape this abortion that murder this illegals that, everything is destroyed and the worst ever. Yuck dude

Yes because Joe and Kamala turned this Trump voter against Trump, not Trump himself.

The filing, by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Dispoto, confirms many of the details already known about Mr. Routh’s discovery by a Secret Service agent one hole ahead of where Mr. Trump was golfing. But it also discloses new details about Mr. Routh’s motivation, and they appear to be ideological and political.

The 10-page filing says the FBI agents obtained a book, “apparently authored” by Mr. Routh, on the war in Ukraine and other conflicts. Mr. Routh blames himself and the U.S. for electing Mr. Trump. “I am man enough to say that I misjudged and made a terrible mistake and Iran I apologize. You are free to assassinate Trump as well as me for that error in judgment and the dismantling of the deal,” Mr. Routh wrote. The reference to Iran presumably concerns the 2015 nuclear deal from which Mr. Trump withdrew the U.S.

Mr. Dispoto also says the FBI obtained a handwritten letter that Mr. Routh had dropped off in a box at a friend’s residence. The letter, addressed to “The World,” said “This is an assassination attempt on Donald Trump but I failed you. I tried my best and gave it all the gumption I could muster.”

The filing offers evidence that Mr. Routh carefully planned the assassination attempt, using his phone near the golf course and Mr. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence for at least a month.

I’ve watched full length interviews and he is clumsy and unappealing with his message. For example when asked about Laura Loomer’s statement regarding the White House smelling like curry gave a pained answer that he further undercut by bringing up “fried chicken”.

Also this argument that people aren’t watching or listening to JD Vance’s full interviews is ironic when they frequently cite some snippets of Kamala Harris interviews and claim she isn’t talking about policy. In many of those same interviews cited such as the Oprah interview she does bring up specific policies.

Respectfully - I don't think his message appeals to moderates at all.

JD Vance's message a decade ago would have, but he has gone the other way.

As for his tone - no, he is quieter than the bombastic Trump - but he comes across as very arrogant.

To be clear - I don't think the policies of Walz will appeal to moderates either. Walz is more likeable - but his politics are not centered enough IMO.

The Republicans should crush the Democrats this election cycle - during the 2020 election cycle I said the country was entering a really chaotic period and whatever party won the 2020 election was dead meat in 2020 because no one was going to be able to fix the problems.

Here we are in 2024 and it is pretty close to a coin flip - and that is because Harris has ran a surprisingly solid campaign - but mostly it is because Trump is the Republican nominee and he has made some mistakes - and naming Vance as his VP is one of them... he kissed good bye to recovering the female vote and has doubled down on males - and is trying to pick off more young white males and black males.... maybe it works.... but had the Republicans nominated a better candidate, I firmly believe they would be +5 in the polls instead of somewhere between -1 to -4.

He is awkward - he doesn't come across as loveable awkward either. Trump is a little awkward too, but he has a degree of magnetism they helps off set it....... Vance just comes across as a guy that used to be in finance, is sheltered and an arrogant *******. I know that he is the most prominent member of the new age conservatives, and I do not doubt he is bright and capable..... but from a personality and likeability standpoint, it is a zero. Ten years ago he was more positive, more compassionate in his comments and that helped him. Now he is Al Gore crossed with Richard Nixon.... stiff, weird and has incel vibes... and just weird.

    Ryan Routh is mentally ill.

He is also a former Trump supporter.
