    Haitian group in Ohio files criminal complaint against Trump, Vance

    COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The leader of a nonprofit representing the Haitian community of Springfield, Ohio, filed criminal charges Tuesday against former President Donald Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, over the chaos and threats experienced by the city since Trump first spread false claims about legal immigrants there during a presidential debate.

    The Haitian Bridge Alliance invoked its private-citizen right to file the charges in the wake of inaction by the local prosecutor, said their attorney, Subodh Chandra of the Cleveland-based Chandra Law Firm.

    Trump and Vance, a U.S. senator from Ohio, are charged with disrupting public services, making false alarms, telecommunications harassment, aggravated menacing and complicity. The filing asks the Clark County Municipal Court to affirm that there is probable cause and to either refer the case for further investigation or to issue arrest warrants against Trump and Vance.

    “Their persistence and relentlessness, even in the face of the governor and the mayor saying this is false, that shows intent,” Chandra said. “It’s knowing, willful flouting of criminal law.”

    More than 30 bomb threats were directed at state and local government buildings and schools, prompting closures, the assignment of additional law enforcement protection and security cameras. Some of the city’s Haitian residents have also said they feared for their safety as public vitriol grew, and Mayor Rob Rue has received death threats.

    “If it were anyone else other than Trump and Vance who had done what they’ve done — wreak havoc on Springfield, resulting in bomb threats, evacuated and closed government buildings and schools, threats to the mayor and his family — they would have been arrested by now,” Chandra said. “So, really, the only question is whether the court and then the prosecutors would treat Trump and Vance the way anyone else would be treated. They are not above the law.”

    Chandra said the U.S. Supreme Court’s July ruling granting ex-presidents broad immunity from criminal prosecution doesn’t apply in this case because Trump is currently a private citizen and Vance did not amplify the rumors that members of Springfield’s 15,000-member Haitian community were eating people’s pets in his capacity as a senator.

    Specifically, the affidavit alleges Trump and Vance: — Disrupted public service “by causing widespread bomb and other threats that resulted in massive disruptions” to Springfield’s public services;

    — Made false alarms “by knowingly causing alarm in the Springfield community by continuing to repeat lies that state and local officials have said were false”;

    — Committed telecommunications harassment “by spreading claims they know to be false during the presidential debate, campaign rallies, nationally televised interviews, and social media”;

    — Committed aggravated menacing “by knowingly making intimidating statements with the intent to abuse, threaten, or harass the recipients, including Trump’s threat to deport immigrants who are here legally to Venezuela, a land they have never known”;

    I'm just surprised at how his stories didn't get more run. Yes, they were national press, but man, it seems nuts. RFK Jr. talks fondly of his memories to Rosanne about the time he saw a car kill a cub in an accident. So he sees the fresh roadkill and says to himself, "better not let this delicious bear meat go to waste," and puts the dead cub in his car, because that's not illegal in NY. Then he forgets that he's late to dinner, so he heads off to a Peter Luger Steakhouse to meet his friends. After dinner, he realizes he doesn't have time to properly cut up the bear meat, as he has a flight to catch, and the bear would just rot in his car at the airport. He also has an old bicycle in his car, so he decides to stage an accident Central Park in the middle of the night just for the lulz. The next morning, people discover the bike and bear, call the cops. The NYT sends a reporter out there to write it up and the reporter is RFK's cousin or something? And that's 10+ years ago. What?!? Amazing.

    And it's not so different from the black guy hitting the goose photo. Well it is and isn't, but it sure is crazy. Bring RFK Jr. back, just for the stories.

    Yeah, perhaps it just doesn't generate as many clicks?

    I'm also surprised the story of the New Yorker reporter who allegedly had a relationship with him isn't getting mentioned much (or maybe it is? I don't watch the news enough to know), especially since she wrote an article critical of Biden's mental state months before he dropped out. It seems like RFK Jr.'s people are saying she was aggressively pursuing him, which honestly sounds typical of RFK Jr.—a pretty immoral guy who would go after women and then throw them under the bus afterward.

    "The Haitian Bridge Alliance made the move after inaction by the local prosecutor, said their attorney, Subodh Chandra of the Cleveland-based Chandra Law Firm.

    Charges brought by private citizens are rare, but not unheard of, in Ohio. Examples might be a grocery store charging a customer for a bounced check. State law requires a hearing to take place before the affidavit can move forward. As of Tuesday afternoon, none had been scheduled.
    "

    Sounds like the hearing is conducted before a judge to see if it the case has merit.

    JD Vance is worse than Trump on these issues - and Trump will use fear over immigrants stealing jobs and government benefits as a wear to chip off blue collar workers, and it may work in 2024 - but that is all it is to Trump, a political move. JD Vance really believes what he is saying, he gets into these intellectual circles with people like Deneen and Thiel and the philosophy of Girard and you end up with some very extreme and bizarre political philosophies.

    I suggest you find time to listen to this breakdown of who Curtis Yarvin is. Basically this dude started the entire "tech bro monarchism" movement that JD Vance is apart of.

    Yeah I used to talk to him online before his real identity was exposed years ago. He is an incel and very authoritarian - but doesn't believe himself is the authority but yearns to serve one. Very smart - very very odd. I never expected him to become as influential as he has become, his views were always outside the norm. He is a lot like @Commodore in his beliefs... they are sincere, and he is pragmatic about his beliefs - but they are certainly not compatible with most of the world around him.

    I would have never known about any of this if Trump hadn’t brought it to everyone’s attention. Also, Trump won’t let it die. Trump just digs in his heels and won’t budge.

    I feel bad for the Haitians. They haven’t done anything wrong. They are just trying to live their lives. Then Trump decides he wants to turn them into villains for his own gain.

    Or creating different aliases and pretending other people won't call him out for it.

    What kind of a lonely broken tool would haunt a message board as a disgraceful and dishonorable person?
