It's very telling you got offended by me saying that "Jalen Green is never defended out in the perimeter" is a crazy segment more so than the dude who made the claim even though you agree it's not a true statement. NBA defenses aren't guarding players purely by 3pt percentage. If Alpi shot 40% from three but still did his triple pump fakes while wide open from 3, he'd still be waved off by a defender to shoot the ball uncontested with zero attempt at a closeout. Alpi could keep his exact same 3 pt percentages but not hesitate on his threes, let em fly upping his volume and defenders would start to close out on him instead of ignoring him. Jalen Green is streaky. He's also a primary offensive option. There can be more than one reason why a NBA team won't leave Jalen wide open consistently at the three point line. Sure there are individual plays where a defensive laps has Green wide open but it's never by design.
Also mathematically it doesn't make sense to leave open even a 33% three point shooter. Because that is equivalent of leaving someone wide open who shoots 50% from the mid range. That is SGA middie efficiency. Are NBA defenses leaving sga wide open on his middies? NBA defenses aren't going to leave high volume 33% 3 pt shooters wide open. That's just not a thing. And yes 33% from three isn't going to cut it for Green. He needs to get better.
Same old, same old. Everybody gets offended, everyone has reading comprehension, everyone has schizophrenia, everyone is a hater. You can't post without using these phrases. There is nothing strange about thinking something is correct while disagreeing why it happened. Being streaky with a low percentage is not a positive trait and nba teams do not defend him in a special way because he is streaky(which is not something obvious and needs to be verified as well).
"Positive trait". "Defend in a special way"... This is all claims you are making about what im saying because I think "Jalen Green isn't left wide open all the time like Sengun from three". Jalen Green is defended like any other high volume streaky three pt shooter. You are finding reasons to be offended. Jalen Green needs to improve as a shooter. A NBA defense isn't going to leave a high volume 33% shooter wide open because that's equivalent of 50% from inside the three point line. As much as Jordan Poole has horrible efficiency from 3, you aren't seeing defenses not closing out on him or leaving him wide open like they would with someone like Sengun or Amen. That doesn't mean 33% is acceptable for what Green needs to be. I'm simply fighting a claim that NBA defenses leave Green wide open like they do with Sengun at the three pt line specifically. That's all. But you need to find a way to make rather benign milquetoast claims offensive so now you think I'm saying shooting 33% from three is "good". It isn't and I don't know how to type sentences that make it clear to you that it isn't.
If you watched the games, teams don't leave Sabonis greater than 5 feet...... (exception was Dray playing way off during that playoff series ) Sengun gets a 15 foot cushion (slight exaggeration but not by much). Sengun https://www.nba.com/player/1630578/alperen-sengun/ Sabonis https://www.nba.com/player/1627734/domantas-sabonis/
You know, there is this thing called internet where you can actually find footage and stats and it is pretty easy to check the claim you made. Here is all the 3 pt shots sabonis took in 23-24. And they are all wide open and nobody cares to defend him. https://thehighlow.io/video/player/nba/2023-24/1627734/miss3p,make3pa,make3p?ordsq=asc&shotFilters= And you can look at nba stats to see that literally all of his 3pts are wide open(6+feet): https://www.nba.com/stats/players/s...+Season&CloseDefDistRange=6++Feet+-+Wide+Open So if you watched games, I think you need to see an eye doctor.
Yes i also checked the Internet and they both (Sengun and Sabonis) come out both the same in 23/24. With exception of Sabonis shooting 37%. (Sengun lower) Sengun https://www.nba.com/player/1630578/alperen-sengun/ Sabonis https://www.nba.com/player/1627734/domantas-sabonis/
because both are complete zeros as shooters....why would it look any different? neither guy needs to ever be guarded outside of 10 feet
Again it doesn't make a difference if he shoots 37%. You claimed he is a threat and teams are closing on him. Both claims are absolutely wrong. And if you had watched any games, you would have known this.
We agree that we disagree. That the Kings have more or better 3-point shooters covers up the small volume from the center or power forward spot. You and astronaut are knit picking....don't want to talk about Boston and Indiana being some of the most efficient teams on offense. Thunder as well had one of the best 3-point shooting teams which translated to one of the best offenses.
That post wasn't directed at you ..... it was in response this post insinuating that Sengun was the cause of all the spacing issues and the following 2-3 posts making irrelevant comparisons. Funny thig is, I wouldn't call myself a Jater .... I think he has great, yet unrealized potential. I realize how young and unprepared he was when he was drafted .... and think it's reasonable that he eventually becomes that star we thought we were getting. Don't confuse me with BTG - I'd hate to be in Stone's shoes having to make the decision on him next offseason ....
In case you missed it, Butler played as PF the last years and was a bruiser of a SF.......Green is nothing alike outside of not being able to shoot well. Wade also did not shoot a lot of 3s and was a below average shooter from downtown..... Old age is the only thing keeping me away from him.
This is practically everyone who is called a jater. The green fan club sees everyone as btg and don't like to be called out for bad arguments.
So important to recognize in retrospect that Green's career should have started like: - Rookie year comes off the bench, a coach like Udoka teaches him fundamentals and they immediately detect the need to improve his jumper mechanics. The team culture is set from the start. Maybe 20 minutes a game and 10ish shots per game giving him a chance to be efficient and raise his confidence/stamina. Gets pulled for bad shots and low effort, minutes must be earned. He'd have a higher TS% and splits than he currently does so people would be happy but mad at the coach for not playing him more. - Second year still comes off the bench but you set the challenge for him to win the starter spot. You go up to 25-30 minutes per game and trust him with a few more shots and possessions. By mid or late season if he's playing well, you give him the starters spot. Constant work on his jumper and winning fundamentals. He'd have slightly better splits than his rookie season. - Year 3 he has to win his starting spot in training camp. This is the season he was supposed to take off. By this point he should be going into the season fully understanding what it requires to win and have a successful NBA season. He should understand good and bad shots/plays already. His jumper should have improved materially. His defense should be at least average for a starter. The team already understands which players and system to put around him. Here you start seeing long stretches of star level scoring. Instead of just one March 2024 maybe you get a few of them sprinkled across the season. - Year 4 he starts to earn constant big usage and plays well in the playoffs. We're still roughly on this schedule but we gave him too many minutes and bad habits the first two years, so it feels like years 3 and 4 were delayed by a year. Udoka seems to have salvaged the situation.
Sabonis shoots 1 trey per game, he has settled. Indy had him shoot a lot more, at 32%. I mean they relied on his Offense a lot more than what Sacramento has been doing. In reality Sabonis is doing just enough and fine being the 3rd Option on Offense. Alpe just has more ambition towards the Top.
You are getting offended when I explain that Jalen Green isn't being left wide open all the time at the three point line. You didn't have to say anything. You accuse people saying really level headed things about Green that defend him of being "stans" or making "bad shooting into a positive". You misrepresent claims made by people making mold defenses of Green to get offended and then go tell others how you are falsely accused of being a hater. You aren't a hater. You are just annoying and swinging at ghosts.
I think, Sabonis also lacks the creativity to go beyond his current level. He is a good piece of a working system, who makes the system create shots for others (like hand-offs) but doesn't have creation for himself or teammates beyond that. Sengun has talent way beyond that. This should be more evident this season as sengun closes the strength gap with sabonis.
Yea but was Alperen's dad as good as Arvydas? Alpe's dad wanted him to become a Swimmer. That dad son combo has to be one of the best in the world. Both All Star caliber or better. Sometimes the dad is better, not always the son. (I also think a reason why Sengün has more potential than Domantas is that he was already at an MVP level in Europe ..... a teenager much like Doncic)
Kings system is totally different, frees Fox up and clears the paint. They do a lot of Warriors-like movement to free Fox. Nothing like our kindergarten offense. You can have the right personnel in the wrong places. The paint was packed for us for most of the season, that's beyond discussion. Jalen Green has no fears about attacking the rim, we just made it harder. Almost all the perimeter players on the team struggled to meet expectations when it comes to getting to the basket at a good volume. The offense was poorly designed for that. Amen, Cam and Jalen were all below expectations getting to the rim (from the perimeter) frequently. The problem was systemic. Jalen has been better than this even under Silas. It's obvious the system was not well designed for Jalen most of the season, and Udoka admitted it word for word in an interview too. They changed the system and he played better on average after that. No one thought Green is a Harden archetype who can muscle his way to 10 FT's in a packed paint. Only MVP candidates do **** like that.
